I said . . . .One other thought about Tariffs, a polite way of saying Embargo. Putting tariffs on Chinese products that we can easily purchase from other countries without putting a strain on American consumers.

Can you explain the difference between buying from China and buying at the same price from India as far as the cost to US consumers goes?

Further, please explain how that helps home grown US products compete.

The only logical way to compete in world markets is to sharpen your pencils and look at the competition, make things more efficient and cost effective and that requires innovation, not tariffs.

And there in lies the problem Fred, history repeats and some are too blind to see the real problems. As you say, lazy, deaf in one ear and won't hear with the other. For me it matters little as I'm a retired old fart but see the economic ramifications.

its a little hard to do this when the Chinese are paying their workers equivalent of two or three dollars an hour to make the same product that worker is getting $20-$30 an hour in the US. Efficiency only goes so far.

Buying from India is doing business with a friend, buying from China is buying from an adversary.

Cheap prices mean poor or dangerous products.

China exported goods represents a disproportionate of product recalls in the US.

(1) Drywall that releases Sulfur Gases.

(2) Dangerous and defective Pet Food, Tooth Paste and Pharmaceuticals .

(3) 17 million child toys recalled because of lead paint.

(4) 18 million dangerous toys because a magnate in the toys could be swallowed.

Cheap prices mean poor quality or danger military products.

(1) Myanmar had dysfunctional radar on it's JF-7.

(2) Bangladesh has problems firing amo on it's K-8W aircraft.

(3) Nigeria bought F-7 aircrafts that keep crashing. Out of the nine remaining seven of them had to be sent back to China.

(4) Pakistan have many problems with Chines produced F22P Frigates and also had problems with F90 missile systems and SR-60 radars.

Apart from keeping the banks in order, the Fed does what it can to maintain the US's  financial stability.

Aussies went through an extreme dictatorship transition during the pandemic when the government quarantined people in camps, would not allow certain aussie citizens back into the country and prohibited travel. They floated international law. Apparently that shameful period has been fixed (but not prevented fron recurrence) but it highlights the extreme sensitivity of many Australians to dictatorships, after all they recently experienced the worst dictatorship possible. Steve, whatever happened over there has no relationship to what is currently happening in the USA, which is simply making necessary and normal appointments during a Presidential transition period. Biden did the same thing; this had nothing to do with hitleresque dictatorships.

You wouldn't know what happened through Covid lock downs in Australia as they were similar in the US and not administered by the federal government but state and territories, all were different with rules and restrictions but I could certainly return to Australia any time I wanted, I had many contracts offered in Australia as well as other countries but what stopped me was the no return to the Philippines and my better half, that went on for years as well as the harsh lock downs here, face masks, face shields, blocked highways etc. Mandatory vaccinations, age restrictions, the Philippines locked it up and I arrived back on the day of the full lock down and had to flee Manila to get back to our home here.

Aside that is past and while I never heard of detention camps in Australia, those arriving were quarantined to hotel rooms for up to 2 weeks (hope they had nice hotels) for medical clearance,,,,,, it's simple, look at the death rates around the world and compare them to how many countries dealt with the problem without injecting bleach.

Back on topic it's very interesting to watch Trump select the pawns for the slaughter, very interesting and how long will they last? Covid pales compared to what Trump is planning for control. Anyway.

OK, I will not say anything more about Australia's dystopian lockdowns or citizens stranded in India during the delta variant. After all, I didn't live there and I was only going by memory of news reports a few years ago. As for researching Google, all of the really nasty stuff like citizens denied entry is not there which "confirms" you statements. In the world of globalism, apparently, history is what you make it". So, I will defer to you. I guess you may not favor Trump...that's the best I can determine from your comment...and that is fine. It is also fine that Trump won the US Presidency popular vote, the electoral vote by a wide margin and both houses of congress so, whatever side you may have been on, the American people spoke loudly on November 5 and it is good to know that the democracy in our Republic is functioning well.

All good Dan and very much agree that the US electors voiced their opinions big time and chose their candidate, whether right or wrong it's simply a choice. As I say time will reveal the validity of that choice and hopefully not another dictatorship, how many more will fall on the upward march?

Dan it's very easy to watch from a distance and the chuckles along the way no matter country nor policies, Australia included as I'm a comfortably retired old coot these days. 20/30 years ago very different with my philosophies. Really matters little now and I watch for the laughs.

When I started this conversational thread I wanted to hear real opinions from real "thinking people",  about the impact of a Trump Presidency both in the US and the world. You can support Trump or disagree with Trump, but please, can we just have sensible debate about his stated policies and what he says he intends to do, concentrate only on his stated policies, analyse and try to research the impact of his policies from as many different sources as you can find and then come to your own conclusions. We really don't need any more comments from people like the rabid MAGA types like "Enzyte Bob" who brings nothing sensible to the debate. Enzyte Bob is the kind of rabid Trump supporter who would still support Trump and find excuses for his behaviour even if he really did shoot someone on 5th avenue.

Another soothsayer predicting what Trump will do. The American people have spoken and they are not sad.

The problem with extremists is they toot their horns without using their brains.

Their man is in, and all will be great because they think so.

Trump looks a lot like he will pull away from climate action, and he will do whatever he can to assist Russia against Ukraine.

Regardless of opinions on the rights and wrongs, the above is likely.

As for tariffs, he will very likely press ahead regardless of the consequences.

These are likely to push more countries towards BRICS, or at least non-Dollar trading.

He looks a lot like he will take over the Fed's position of protecting the US economy- very likely a bad move for anyone, but a probable disaster with an extremist in power.

Mass deportations may be tried. There are few options there but they are likely to fail because weight of numbers will kill it.

However, mass imprisonment in some sort of camp is a maybe.

Israel will enjoy a boost, but terrorism might very well return to the US because of it.

The attacker's supply chain is an obvious target in war.

His relationships with other countries are a bit of a guess.

He never messes in countries he has business interests in, so a lot will be safe.

The big worry is his military not being able to hold him back from something disastrous.

Also, his last term saw him trying to destroy the very democracy his fans rant on about protecting. If he does try a couple in four years, it will be interesting to see what his fanbois say.

With every previous president I would say a couple was impossible, but we know he tried it last time.
