Car Delivery Services

roddiesho

The only thing left on my bucket list is a custom Dune Buggy from Super Buggy in Japeri, RJ.

Anyone know if there are car delivery services? I don't feel comfortable driving that distance in Brazil

@roddiesho, I was under impression that a dune buggy is strictly an off-road vehicle.  Is this a legal road vehicle in Brazil?

Anyone with a trailer should be able to load, strap, and move...

Have you asked Super Buggy whether they can deliver?

They may charge a lot but they should know how to sell and deliver just in case a high net worth customer like yourself wants a custom made product....

Dune buggy's are usually street legal as they are commonly made from a previously registered VW Beetle chassis, or their modern derivatives, and have all the current safety and traffic equipment  that was legislated as such, from that year of production. The ones I've seen in the Buzios area and the NE all have license plates for the most part. Some do not. Rules change as well right, so, who knows today with a new custom built unit.

Brasil built the VW Beetle until the mid 90's IIRC so lot's sitting around to utilize. In Petropolis there is a club called "Serra Bugs" that has over 200 cars in their organization, just to name one. I am actually going to buy a concours condition restored example for my daily driver in 2025. Max price will be between R$25-35.000 based on my market research.........

@Roddiesho

What does a fully built dune buggy cost anyways ? Kinda curious.

@kolyaS122HSU

I bought a buggy in 2009. I never could get a license on it.

I see very few buggies in Ilhéus now. Have the laws on buggies changed?

alan279

There are buggies for sale on OLX, WebMotors and Mercado Livre. Also search for “bugre”,

alan279

SuperBuggy is homologated by DENATRAN. That’s where I got tripped up years ago. My buggy should have been grandfathered under the old law but I couldn’t get DETRAN to agree with me. DETRAN told me to go to DENATRAN for homologation.

I declined to battle the bureaucracy further and sold the buggy.

roddiesho

@Pablo888 No, I am limited in my Portuguese language skills. I am very good face to face but not over the phone. This will only happen when my YouTube Channel generates enough income to make this happen, so I am searching through the bushes until the time comes. I did not think of the trailer though, so I will keep that idea in mind.

Thanx,

@kolyaS122HSU I couldn't find it but I saw $20k US dollars before. The prices that are quoted are usually in Euros.

This is their website. https://superbuggy.com.br/

@alan279 I don't follow the law, the law usually follows me. 😐

@roddiesho

You could email SuperBuggy and ask about delivery options. You might ask about prices too, I think they have increased quite a bit.

roddiesho

@alan279 These are not your average Dune Buggy.

I drove a Super Buggy for a few minutes some years ago. I was looking at the buggy parked on the beach and a guy asked me if I would like to drive it. Rhetorical question. He tossed me the keys and I drove it on the highway for a few miles and reluctantly surrendered the keys to the owner.

That Super Buggy had a four cylinder water-cooled motor and five speed transmission.

It was fabulous! Nothing like my 1977 buggy.

Funny but guys tend to describe the mechanisms first rather than explain the experience of driving.

I am with you here... KKK

roddiesho

@alan279 I am sure there are some jokes about "a guy asking me if I wanted to drive his buggy" ... I think in the old days we used to tell our kids to avoid those kinds of guys, but you have been around the world several times, so I guess you will be ok, but still....😮

alan279

A used car salesman let me drive a de Tomasco Pantera alone in 1975. I ran it up to 120mph but I think it was good for 150+.

I looked at a 1970 Fiat Dino Spyder one Sunday afternoon. I took it for a drive and got a speeding ticket. There ain't nothing like the sound of four double row chain driven camshafts and three dual throat Weber carburetors.

A couple years later another used car salesman let me take an Audi Quattro for the night. It drove like it was on rails through the curves.

I was offered a drive in a mid 60s Ferrari in Providence in that era but I declined because it was sunset and starting to rain.

I drove a Honda S2000 for an hour in Palm Springs in 1999. It was like putting on an Italian racing shoe. My kind of sports car.

Maybe I have a trusting face?

GuestPoster6669

This was all before your first wife, right ?

alan279

Well, no. But I have had several wives.

roddiesho

@alan279 Who's Counting🤔You divorce one, you marry another one. It's like the weather. Always changing.

alan279

@alan279

But I have had more cars than wives.

alan279

@roddiesho

Your options;

There are big trucks that deliver cars everywhere in Brazil.

There may be “white glove” enclosed truck transports for your new exotic car.

Or, I could drive your new Super Buggy to you! 🤪

alan279

Or, maybe you buy an older air-cooled buggy with good docs nearby (Fortaleza?)? There may be mechanics that can keep old VWs alive near you.

Just some thoughts…

alan279

@alan279

Personally, I’d look for a nice used BRM M-11 if I wanted to buy a buggy today.

alan279

@alan279

Oh, and I’d go hang out with the buggy owners in Natal and Fortaleza. And take trips with them up and down the beaches.

What fun that would be!

roddiesho

@alan279 You know #1 and #2 sound really good. #3 is scary, you don't let a guy who attracts woman frequently drive a real fancy car cross country. 😎

I'm at 23 years and counting......

roddiesho

Ok, so as not to continue forever and in case I get some rare Brazilian disease that makes me disappear next week. Thanx to ALL the good suggestions I will purchase a yellow w/Black Trim Super Buggy, and have it transported by big truck when the time comes.  No purchasing anything else.
