URGENT QUESTION REGARDING BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Post new topic

Saeed Fareeduddin

Hi! I'm an American male marrying a Tunisian female. I was born in New York State and it takes 120 days to receive a birth certificate after requesting it online. I've been told that a birth certificate can't be older then 90 days by the embassy and some people online say it shouldn't be older then 20 days. I would love some clarity and advice on the situation.

Are you planning to get married in Tunisia..? Or bringing your fiancee on K-1?

Reach out to US Embassy in Tunis.. they are aware about NY birth certificate regulations and they can even issue a consular certificate..

Best wishes..

I am an Ameuican who married a Runisian national, in Tunisia.

My birth certificate was way older than the required time for issuance of my birth certificate.  It did not make a difference.

And you will need to get it translated into French and Arabic. So the translated copy will meet the required time frame, should you marry in Tunisia. Make sure the translator is  a certified one, and in Tunisia.

Good Luck!

Hi Saeed,

First, congratulations for your coming marriage. Second, I would indeed trust the embassy because if you just google it, as I just did, you'll get a clear answer: No older than 90 days.

Hope it helps.
