Need advice on Non-Lucrative Resident Visa application form 790

Seeking specific advice on applying for a non-lucrative resident visa, from USA to Almería, Spain.

We have an appointment scheduled with the US San Francisco Spanish Consulate to apply for this visa, but we seem to have a problem in the online instructions for preparing forms.

https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulado … ativa.aspx

indicates that we should fill out form 790, and says "Applicant must complete all the fields with the address of the place of planned residence in Spain. If you don't have an address, fields for CITY and PROVINCE in Spain must be filled in."

https://sede.administracionespublicas.g … io/tasa052

provides instructions for obtaining the form, and has two options:

  1. PAY AND SEND ... VIA INTERNET
  2. COMPLETE AND PRINT THE FORM

The first option requires a long list of technical requirements we don't meet.

The second option allows us to select a province (Almeria), and then gives us an electronic form to fill out. It says "NOTE: TO PRINT YOUR FEE CORRECTLY, FILL OUT THE FORM AND PRESS "OBTAIN DOCUMENT" AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE"

After filling it out, the form fails with an error saying that it requires a FULL residence street address in Almeria, which we do not have. We intend to use temporary accommodations (VRBO or rental) until we are able to settle on a more permanent address.

My question is this: is it normal and expected to arrange for a residence address (including street and box number) BEFORE meeting with the consulate, which we then expect to take three months to grant the visa? That seems unreasonable. But it's our first time doing this sort of thing.

Follow-up: resolved.

I do not know if they changed the form, or if the form is browser-specific, but my wife just went back to this form using the Safari browser (I was using Chrome), and when she selected Almería for the province, a pop-up appeared explaining that we don't need to use this form if our destination is Almería.

This resolves the question.
