Purchasing a condo in Puerto Plata -Dominican Republic

Post new topic

Hello everyone. I’ve been considering purchasing a condo in the Dominican Republic.  I prefer the north coast and I’m looking at Puerto Plata. I’ve never been there and was wondering what expats think of that specific area. I’ve been to Punta Cana, and feel there’s too much going on there for me. I do not speak any Spanish, but would be willing to do whatever I can to learn it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I lived several years in Puerto Plata. I like that it's a small city with all the services you need without the major traffic issues in big cities here.  There are a good number of expats and the city relies on tourism so you will find a fair number of English speakers. There is lots to do in the area but you can also do nothing quite nicely!

Hi bill , I live in puerto plata and I like it here , yer don’t see the crime here like that of the big city, and a lot of less tourists,

the traffic has increased in the last couple of years , but I think that’s because there’s only 2 lanes in both directions and the area has seen an increase in the population, I’ve noticed a big increase in construction , condos- apartments, some are priced reasonably and some are not, you have to do your homework on it , I live in a private house in Atlanta and find it very safe and quiet, I go all ( drive ) over the city and feel safe nobody bothers yer , now I don’t know about the night life, I’m sure there are bars open late but I myself don’t get involved with that …they have some nice resorts here @ playa Dorada, but you won’t get the real feel of town staying there, yer be better off along the  boulevard across from the beach ,

good luck with your adventure , and hope you find what your aiming for……👍
