@Peter Ty hi Peter , just need some info , we are in the uk but have a house in Cyprus , the developer has received a letter for final connection and a date on the 20/2 /25 , but the letter says we need to have signed a contract with the supplier , I thought AHK were the government run electric board which the letter came from and they need to now who the supplier is ? Not sure Iam new to Cyprus , any help would be helpful

Peter Ty

AHK is the EAC. (AHK are their initials in Greek.

(Αρχής Ηλεκτρισμού Κύπρου.)

I think what they may be getting at is that any new or modified connection has to be inspected and signed off by EAC before they will energise the power, which is normally arranged by the electrician who carried out the work, so they may want to see the contract for that.

@Peter Ty

I agree. We are in the process of getting solar and they want to know the back end of a fart

Lol they do not want u reducing their income. I read that there had been significant over PV supply and the network have switched off solar in large areas for some time to reduce feed in. U will probably have a battery so will keep ower but some have lost it doh!

@phildraper

AHK currently don't allow battery systems to connect to there grid....  But you are correct that is exactly what AHK are doing....  Ripple mechanisms have been installed on all PV systems since late 2023 this allows them to disconnect your PV panels without notice.

What a mess! I fail to understand how a country with some much sun does not use it to generate electricity and store it for overnight use. Someone is making money by disrupting the roll-out of PV and batteries both domestic and commercial.

@Toon

To be fair my PV system still produces more than I consume and is cost effective even with the few hours shut off

i would be more worried about older installed systems that do not have intelisense ripple meters as a surge in power can fry your inverter the most important and expensive component- small print as usual is important as EAC accept no responsibility for power surges destroying a PV system

@phildraper

The real issue is the storage of oil as it’s ordered a year in advance and regular shipments are on a conveyor belt of delivery so if it’s not used the follow on shipment cannot be offload and thus adds more costs

should give a greater stability and forecast of elec needs as smart meters are rolled out - then the power stations can run at the estimated capacity requirements- unlike now when it’s two options day and night

Start on smart meter installation- other areas

7/2/2025

The Electricity Authority announces that on Monday 10/02/2025 the mass installation of smart meters will begin in all EAC Regions in the following areas:

Nicosia: Between Stasinou and Digeni Akrita Streets,

Digeni Akrita and John Kennedy Streets

Limassol: Germasogeia and Agios Athanasios coastal

Enaerios – Neapoli

Larnaca: Finikoudes Area

Paphos: Kato Paphos

We remind you that for the safe replacement of the meter, an interruption of the supply is required for a period of time that is not expected to exceed 20 minutes. The Authority apologizes for any inconvenience.
