Hello!

This may seem like a silly question considering where we are living but does anyone know of any recycling facilities in HCMC?  The amount of stuff I've used just in the 3 weeks I've been here that could be recycled is a lot and I'd really like to be able to recycle at least some of it if I can.

I was living in Ecuador for a year and there people used to sort through the rubbish on the streets to find materials to recycle and I have seen some people doing that here. which is something, but it doesn't seem like enough.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks! x

I'm not aware of any facilities where you can go a deposit stuff. But they recycle pretty much everything here, plastic, glass, paper, cardboard you name it it's recycled. And much more than they did in uk.
The rubbish is sorted as it's collected you often see them stood in the back of trucks sorting as it's lifted in.

Thanks!  It's good to hear that it does happen :D

Recycling is a big problem anywhere in Vietnam, contributing to major pollution problems. Paper, plastic, glass, wiring, etc. The problem is, it's done in just about every neighborhood at local homes. It creates heavy pollution. There are about 500 of these sites located in and around Saigon. They burn plastic and rubber, poisoning the air. I lived behind one such center in Tan Binh and the black soot settled in all my rooms. I moved from there as soon as I found out what was causing it. No one reports these sites because most VN don't see the harm being caused.

I still sort the recyclable trash so the collectors don't get hurt with sharp objects. They will do it whether I help or not. Just don't want to see them hurt by sharp cans and stuff. I put all paper, cartons and plastic in a separate bag.
