Moving to Lae

Hi, I'm looking to come over to Lae in the next few Months, I have taken an employment offer (November / December). I would like to know what its like there and anything I should know before coming over. I know who I am working for but I haven't been told where I will be living (company paid). Is there an area or place I should ask to live? Safety is always a concern, but is it really an issue if I use common scene?
