Hello everyone,

I am an exchange student who just arrived to Singapore and I have heard about some websites to look for a room but I am not getting many positive responses. Could you please tell me know which one is more useful to find a room? I have only heard about these three:

easyroommate.com.sg
rentdirect.sg
singapore.craigslist.com.sg

I am a bit dissoriented and I would truly appreciate your advice,

Have a great day and thanks!

have you tried checking with the school if they have some reliable contacts?

they told me they wouldn't take care of it.. but thank you anyways, I will keep trying in these websites ;)

These are indeed the best websites!

Be careful when dealing with property agents, which have a bad reputation but can be difficult to avoid (especially when you need to find a place fast). Keep in mind that they don't usually have your interest in mind (e.g. for paying less rent), but their own (getting a fee, which is normally tied to the monthly rent => higher rent mean more profit for them!). Don't believe everything they say, especially regarding their fees (they are negotiable and there are no fixed rules). If you reply to an ad for a property placed by an agent, they are not allowed to charge you a fee (most will try anyway!). Always check with CEA if the agent is licensed - it is illegal to deal with or pay an unlicensed agent!

Thanks for your advices beppi,

I finally managed to get rid of agents, there are some webs where you can contact the owner straight away with no intermediaries.
I found my place to stay in Bugis with Rentdirect.sg for a fair price. Now it's time to enjoy Singapore ;)

Cheers
