we opened our checking account through UniBank; my husband opened during his last visit there. I know he only had his US Id's and his passport with him.
I have one with Unibank as well. The only hard part is all the forms are in French, and at least at the one I went to in St. Marc no one there spoke English and while I can speak some French it's not good enough to understand all the forms - so if your French isn't great be sure to bring a translator.
Opening a Bank Account here is not all that difficult, all that is needed is a valid ID and maybe a "Permit Serjour". I can refer you to a local service provider here if you are still interested.
