Can Tho Tours

Post new topic

Wild_1

Hi guys,

I bumped into a Swiss couple trying to find their ways through Can Tho with their tour book last night, on my way back from Saigon.  Looking at the info on their book and listening to their Vietnamese, or the lack there off, I couldn't help but feel sorry for them.  For sure, I knew that they were heading for some serious challenges. I tried to give as much info and point of contacts as I could, before having to go my own ways; I was too busy and too tired from my trip.

But, the next time any of you want to tour Can Tho, to really get your money worths or to avoid dissapointments, please drop me a couple of lines.  I have been here almost 3 years now, aside from the really really remote countrysides, there isn't a nook or cranny here that I haven't been to.

Yes, I do have my own things to do here.  But, if you drop me a line in advance of your arrival, what ever I can not answer immediately, I will get it sorted out before you come.  It burns me to see westerners get stranded on their own little islands here; it is tough, not fun at all.

Hi Howie,

Saw this generous offer that i cannot refuse! Thanks. Dropping the line for help now....

What is the best way for a foreigner to get to Can Tho, preferably leaving  on 29/2? Preferably morning leaving HCMC D1. Bear in mind, yes, I have serious language problem!
1. Bus - where?
2. Taxi - How much?
3. Car - Hotel? gonna be costly right?
4. Tour - do point me to a booking link. I do remember one blogger recommended a link and the cost was USD30. Cannot find it again. I am ok to pay a bit more for a comfortable coach and be guided there...safely. I am not good at sitting still for 4 hours ! I think this is best option. How-to?
5. Get Hotel to sort it out!

Any other (not too radical) suggests are most welcome. eg Helicopter!or may be hitch a ride from a Biker and hit the highway!hmmm....

Thanking in advance..

Jaitch

You CANNOT do Can Tho in a One-Day Tour, you have to sleep in a Can ho Hotel in order to catch the floating market as you need to get their around 04.00H.

Same applies to 'Mekong Delta' tours, one day trips only buy you candy factory visits. It's almost 370 kilometres between TP HCM and TP Rach Gia, and another 60 kilometres to Ha Tien for the Phu Quoc ferry.

A Can Tho tour gets you in the floating market easily, harder by DIY. And don't use Delta Tours in Pham Ngu Lau - crooks and their tours disappoint.

Follow the Budweiser Trail, you'll most likely have a better time.

Hi Jaitch,

Thanks for reply.

I am actually spending 3 days in Can Tho, leaving on 29 and returning on 4 March but need to do the free and easy type of tour.

By the way, I am in HCMC on 25 - 29. if you are in HCMC, happy to do beer with you.  An appreciation for all the contributions you provided. Seriously, I am stalking you (...your information) all the time on the blog! Very useful.

Hey Michael,

When you decide to go to Can Tho, ask the taxi driver to take you to Xe Phuong Trang station, on Le Hong Phong Street.  Buy a ticket to Can Tho, it should cost about $5 - $7.  Phuong Trang have those big new couches going to Can Tho every hour.

Accomodations?  I think you should stay at Bryan's.  He and his wife has a pretty cool little hotel.  Don't you have his number?  But check with him first.

If there is where you want to stay, once you reach Can Tho, show your ticket to the Phuong Trang people at the station and Bryan's address.  They will have their company vans take you straight to Bryan's doors.

Along the way, when language becomes a problem for you, give me a ring.  I hope you still have my number?  If not, PM me.

Hi Howie,

Thanks for the quickie. I will follow instructions to the dot.

Have already arranged to stay at Bryan's.

No worry. I travel light. Except on the return trip !

Got all the contacts. Thanks

Michael,

Give me a ring once you are in Vietnam.  I might have to go to HCMC around the time that you are there, depending on my works.

But regardless, don't ever take the taxi or go on one of them tours.  They are for ill-informed and incapacitated folks only.  Taxis cost 10 times more and tours...  they herd you around like sheeps.  :idontagree:
