Is it safe?

it is reasonably safe in Cairo for 3 days.

It depends how you intend to get around. Ideally a car and driver but if not join a tour or find an English speaking cabbie and negotiate a daily rate. On another point don't bring a buggy you won't be able to use it. If you have a harness great but the footpaths are non existent even around the touristy pyramids area.  Just avoid downtown especially if your visit falls on a Friday and you will be fine

you can come, and welcome in Egypt.. but i have some advices:

there is some protests and strik, but not in Pyramids area

i live in Downtown, its more safe now but not quite safe

i see tourists not many, but they still come to Egypt

you can stay in hotle near prymids area , but don't miss to visit the Egyptian Museum  , try to come in week work day , it more crowded but more safe

if you wanna a tour in Egyptian Museum  , i will be glad to help you as i live near it...

finally , its your choice to come or not , i can't say its totally safe , and i can't said its unsafe to be honest..

but i feel your visit is something you don't wanna miss

It is safe now, don't believe everything you see in media they are trying to over hyping, and yeah try to avoid downtown on friday

Thank you all for your replies.  We will book a private tour guide to see the pyramids and I have a front pack to carry our son in so will leave his buggy at the hotel.  We will be there over the weekend, so will it still be ok to visit the pyramids on a Friday?  Or shall we avoid going there on this day?

The pyramids on a Friday is perfectly fine and safe, if you go early you may even have the whole place to yourself which is very special, enjoy your trip, bring your camera and smile at the locals, saying no to their services is just part of the game, they are only trying to make a living, enjoy, Cairo is a wonderful crazy city all of the time don't let the current media coverage put you off.
