Emergency Message for foreign ( expatriate ) in Egypt

Last activity 25 December 2011 by Queen Cleopatra

Queen Cleopatra

the Government of Egypt will be holding the first phase of national parliamentary elections on November 28 and 29, 2011 in Cairo, Alexandria, Fayoum, Port Said, Damietta, Kafr-el-Sheikh, Assiut, Luxor and the Red Sea Governate.  Movement of voters to polling stations on these days may cause traffic delays and large crowds near polling places.  Security measures put in place may result in significant traffic disruptions, especially in Cairo and Alexandria.
please avoid areas where large gatherings may occur.  Even demonstrations or events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.  Voting usually takes place in schools and in some municipal buildings in smaller towns and cities.  foreign in Egypt are urged to monitor local news reports on Election Day(s) and the days immediately following, and to plan their activities accordingly.

the demonstrations continue to take place in Tahrir Square and near some government buildings.  Demonstrations in Cairo and Alexandria over the November 25-26 weekend resulted in violent confrontations in some locations.  please avoid Tahrir Square and streets leading to the square.  avoid all demonstrations, for they have the potential to turn violent on short notice.  Foreigners participating in or in close proximity to on-going demonstrations may be subject to arrest by Egyptian police or military officials
Be safe

Voted. It was a very peaceful, organized process. Took me 90 minutes from start to finish (was a rather long line).

I don't want to sound too corny or 1960s-movies-style, بس احنا بنعمل اللي علينا و الباقي على ربنا

Translation for non-Arabic Speakers : we do what we have to do, and God will take care of it  (very cliche sentence from old movies)

Well I hope that our efforts will be translated to reality in order for us to rebuild our country in the right way!

Ahmad, I went as you told me but I noticed that it wasn't stamped so I refused to continue, and the judge told me to come tomorrow as all the documents were the same!

The elections was so well organized and a very civilized ... way to go Egyptians .

Queen Cleopatra

I voted yesterday, after official working hours(they sent us home early in order to vote) some of my friends told me there are overcrowdedness and I may wait for hours, therefore,  I preferred to go late after six o'clock pm - That was a right decision where I voted in five minutes, no more, and without any complications - and by the way this is the first time I go to vote in the elections
I have felt for the first time that my voice has a value  for that I did not hesitate to go

amiri

Good luck Egyptian

zegazoly

Elections in the Giza Area are going to be held within two weeks, but Elections held, in other places were somehow pretty good.. :)
