Hello.

I'm not sure if anyone can really tell you specifically if $60k is enough for your family to live in Australia. It depends on a lot of variables like what city, expenses, etc.

Check out the following I saw on the internet that can help assist you thing about items you will need to be aware besides the normal cost of living, etc. You will need to research to determine how much you will be taxed on your salary to give you a better reflection of your take home pay, etc.

Simple lifestyle and basic living (rental) will do

Hi kmm,
Is 60k net or gross? If gross salary, then I think it's a bit tight for a family in Melbourne but not impossible, as 2Curlews says; basic living/simple lifestyle. Melbourne is becoming more and more expensive these days though.

You will have to choose the suburb carefully so you have access to good public schools when your little one starts school next year. Rental for 3BR house in average suburb about 1500$ pm. Food/utilities/phone/internet etc are all about 2-3 times more than in EU. I believe software engineers can command slightly higher salaries. Check this site to find average salaries in Melbourne:
