Post new topic

Dear All - Me and my family (wife and 2 kids) are relocating to Oman in Jan 2012.
Would like to check if  Ghubrah is a good area to stay. My office will be in ruwi and son most probably will be studying in Qurm. What u all suggest if ghubrah will be a good option or Khuwair?

and are these safe and secure places.
regards

I stay in Muscat Hills which is only a couple of minutes from the airport and is a very secure place to live - highly recommended.  I work in Ruwi and it takes a good 40 minutes to drive from Muscat Hills every morning to the office.  The drive isn't too bad and you get very used to the traffic!

Dear Imran

If you will be working in Ruwi then seek admission in ISM or ISD, or ISWK schools. You can stay in Ruwi, Darsait, Wadi Kabir, CBD areas.

Lately there have been a number of cases of car break-ins and robberies being committed at locked houses.
If you are a regular reader of ‘Muscat Daily’ newspaper you will find such news items being reported on a very regular basis. In fact, just a couple of issues back ‘The Week’ covered the increase in car break-ins in Muscat as their lead feature !
Notable neighbourhoods where these incidents are happening more frequently than in the rest of the city are the Wadi Kabir, Muttrah and Darsait areas.
Which is why most of the new buildings which are coming up or have just come up all come fitted with 24x7 CCTV surveillance cameras and access control system.

Please help me to take a decision
1> how will be the Indian Schools in Oman and getting admissions in April'13 for KG1, 1st Grade & 6th grade?
2> how is the living style over there?
3> which is good residencial area to live in with easy access to grocery, Schools, Hospital and other facilities?

Thanks,

Hi Dhanam,

(1) Indian School admissions are rather difficult - not so much for KG1 though. Some Indian schools even have afternoon shifts, out of necessity to accommodate for the huge demand. Most new admissions are given only for the afternoon shifts. Better to book your interests online for the 1st and 6th Grades by December this year itself so you stand a fighting chance to get the required admissions.

(2) Lifestyle here in Muscat is mostly calm, quiet and rather laid back. If you were to compare this with the Dubai kind of lifestyle, rest assured it will be like chalk and cheese !

(3) Middle Class Indians stay in large numbers in Ruwi, Darsait, CBD, MBD, Wadi Kabir, Mumtaz Area, Al Falaj Area and in Al Khuwair predominantly. But if your income is above average and if you can afford it then you should look at Al Qurum, Madinat Al Ilam, or any of the freehold properties like The Wave and Muscat Hills.

Good luck !
