Got a job offer in Muscat?

Post new topic

Hi,

I have read some of the posts and have found them to be really helpful in helping me decide on whether to leave India or not. however some small questions still bother me and I thought I should lay it out in the open for ppl to respond.

Im married soon and would be shifting to muscat with my wife.

1. Presently the company Im going to be employed with is giving me 850 OMR in which i have to manage the house rent and furniture will be provided by the company?(good or bad ???)

2. Which areas are best suited for indian expats I'm looking for Ruwi, muscat?

3. what are the options to spend weekends.. have heard jebel ali and dubai are nearby and so is sharjah ???

4. what about internet? and can we have good connectivity... im talking on the lines of having streaming video rather than specific download speeds... would at least want to catch some entertainment on the net if the channnels are limited...

5. my wife would also be accompanying me and she has 4yrs of working experience in oil and gas industry, so are there any employment opportunities full time for her which she can do??? and also are there any visa issues for her to work?

Hi Kruti,

as far as rent is concerned company is not gonna provide it. Can you let me know how much will be other expenses will everything be covered in 450RO per month I mean food and car and petrol etc..
My wife has experience in core oil and gas industry in rig tools, if you are aware, so can she get a job is there is basic qualification needed.
Thanks

Sumitran

Hi ankit1983,

I'll come straight to the point without any preamble as I've written on different topics covering all of your concerns at length in this same forum and in the recent past.

1. Presently the company Im going to be employed with is giving me 850 OMR in which i have to manage the house rent and furniture will be provided by the company?(good or bad ???) :

–    You paying the house rent is not good. If the company pays your house rent then it’s good for you.
–    If the company provided furniture is brand new and straight from the showroom then it’s good. If it’s used furniture then it is bad.

2. Which areas are best suited for indian expats I'm looking for Ruwi, muscat? :

–    Al Khuwair, Al Qurum, Wattayah, Ruwi, Mumtaz Area, Hayy Bait Al Falaj, Darsait, Greater Muttrah, CBD Area, MBD Area and Wadi Al Kabir.

3. what are the options to spend weekends.. have heard jebel ali and dubai are nearby and so is sharjah ??? :

–    There are lots of excellent weekend outing spots in and around Muscat.
–    Ancient Forts and Castles abound in the Sultanate. They are well worth a look.
–    Different Wadis (water bodies); Mountains (trekking, camping); Cave (eco-tourism); Beaches (loads of them around) are also must sees.
–    Dubai (Jebel Ali is in Dubai) is about 5 hours by road. Sharjah is about 5 hours and 45 minutes drive away.
–    Please bear in mind that during the high summer season (April – September) the best weekend outing spot will be your own home as the heat outside would be absolutely awful.

4. what about internet? and can we have good connectivity... im talking on the lines of having streaming video rather than specific download speeds... would at least want to catch some entertainment on the net if the channels are limited... :

–    Muscat has 3G+ broadband services. (Investments have been made, according to newspaper reports, for upgrading to 4G shortly).
–    Browsing speeds are upwards of up to 12 MBPS / 128 Kbps.
–    Streaming audio / video is no problem.
–    Plus, TV channels are not limited. You get all Indian channels easily through DTH receivers. Plus, hundreds more too.

5. my wife would also be accompanying me and she has 4yrs of working experience in oil and gas industry, so are there any employment opportunities full time for her which she can do??? and also are there any visa issues for her to work? :

–    If your wife gets a job her employer would have to sponsor her ‘Employment Visa’.
–    She cannot work if she’s still on your ‘Dependent’ or ‘Family’ Visa.
–      Oil being the main revenue generator and the economic driver, there are many O&G companies.
–    If she’s professionally trained and more importantly if she is lucky then she will get a good job and soon.
