Hello there! I'm Justin... this seems to be the place for introductions so I thought I would post my own. I will be landing in Beijing on the 7th if everything works out, and I could not be more worried or excited. Coming from Alabama of all places... it is going to be an experience! (I happen to love those) Well, I don't really know what else to say. Maybe I will see you around! :)

welcome,:D

Blueheart556

Thanks guys! I can't wait to be on the ground!

zhaowang

dude, if you need some guide when you get here, feel free to contact me. but beijing is a city of both tradition and modernity, if you plan to know her better, you gotta know a little background about her.

7th of which month?

Blueheart556

In April. So, this week.

Manlin

Excited is good but worried .... ?

No need to worry, take everything with a smile, chalk things up to experience and do not expect things to be the same as "at home" if they were there would be no point in coming.

Try new things, clear your mind of pre-conceptions and try not to think that the way things are done at home is better - different yes, better is a subjective opinion and is always arguable.

Blueheart556

Yeah, I am extremely open minded.

In fact, I am probably most excited about the difference. Coming from a small town in the southern US.... most any change is a good change!

Blueheart556

I personally try to be as objective as possible when it comes to new things. I can't wait for the new experiences!

I am more worried about other things such as some of the people I am leaving behind and some of the decisions I have had to make to make a move like this a reality.

No looking back though! I am trying to leave my worries at the airport and enjoying the new adventure! :)

Manlin

How long will you be here and what will you be doing? Working Studying? Tourist?

SarisB

Sinaps

Hey, I am sure you'll appreciate this little monster which is called Beijing

Blueheart556

Hey guys, I just landed last night and have the day free today...I guess I am about to head over to China Unicom and see if I can pick up a sim.

@manlin : I will be here for then next year, maybe even 2 for work.

Manlin

Why China Unicom?

China mobile had better coverage (but does not support the various iThings).

Blueheart556

I heard, but I really want my 3g... so I heard CU was the way to go there.

Manlin

China Mobile also has 3G - just need a phone that works on the same 3G system.

Blueheart556

I know, but I bought a new phone right before I left the states and I am pretty sure it wont work with CM's 3g.... I figure if I don't like CU then I will just switch in a month or so.

Manlin

No idea what phone you have or what system it works on but maybe try and take with you a Chinese speaking colleague and see if you can test before you buy.

Example asking the sales person if for a test you can put his/her card into your phone for a few seconds and see if it works.

Good Luck

I know, but I bought a new phone right before I left the states and I am pretty sure it wont work with CM's 3g.... I figure if I don't like CU then I will just switch in a month or so. Thanks though!

Blueheart556

I succeeded at getting my cell phone all by myself... I feel pretty accomplished hahahahaha... good stuff indeed!

Manlin

Congrats

Sinaps

Congrats as well !
