No idea, really. For ID there is no problem, I believe, but for residence permit - at least you need to apply.

it is difficult to say what will happen after the 31 st March.

As you are Bulgarian and it seems that you are already resident without applying for the residence certificate previously you might not be able to apply for a work permit if you are looking for work.But you can work as self-employed! But for that you will probably need the residence certificate !

If you are just staying as a tourist and you are financially self-sufficient there is no real problem anyway.

If you only intend to stay for a few months it probably doesn't really matter. If you intend to stay longer you should get an appointment.

It is all a bit dodgy at the moment.

It would also be nice if other departments and organisations learn of the new e-residence card. My wife had a lot of trouble this morning convincing an Arriva kiosk attendant that it is the new residence card. She had of course never heard of it of seen it before.

thanks, Ricky. I am trying to get an appointment but without success till now my question was for the period between March and the appointment.

for the time being I don't intend to search for a job here and my husband has his work permit already. my son will have to travel to school with Arriva buses on higher rates and although I don't like it I can live with it.

let's hope the appointment letter will come soon and nobody will ask for Maltese documents till then.

apart from the higher Arriva fares I doubt if it has any other consequences.

I presume your husband is waiting for the appointment too  as you will be going together.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for an apppointment being given soon. Let us know.

Its not clear from what I have read but are the people on Fridays actually given appointments and others are turning up to try and be seen or are they literally taking the first 60 people who turn up and then turning others away, does anyone know? It looks dreadful whatever the system, cant be nice for the people if they have to keep going there each Friday.

Friday is for Third country nationals only, however we went by appointment on a Monday only to find that the TCN's who they could not manage on Friday had been told to go on the Monday. The receptionist upstairs and who handles the appointments goes home at 11:30, so after that its a free for all !!
The appointment list was left on the desk and everyone has a specific time but there is no one to administer the appointments.

Friday is for refugees only! I doubt that you really want to come on Friday, really.

Friday is for refugees only! I doubt that you really want to come on Friday, really.

I know, I wasnt planning on going there on a Friday, I was just wondering what system was used to process people's applications.

Noo im not... i am an EU , but still it is not fair for the people

To be honest, it's most unfair for non-EU

European citizens have the right of movement in any way, so it's not the problem to go to your country for holidays and come back to Malta again.

The refugees cannot move from and to Malta in any way, as I understand.

Just a small question.....is there anyone who applied for the e-ID card on the 22 of January and already got the card? I had call the department and the answer i was given "it might take 6 weeks or more" ...well now in my case already 6 week,  since applying and still nothing... ...

we were there on the 22 nd too and have not heard anything yet ! -)))

I guess we just have to be patient. I'll let you know when (if) I hear back from them.

lets hope that when the election is all over - the newly elected government will flood the dept with staff to deal with this properly.....

They already appear to have at least doubled the staff numbers, and are now processing at least 100 a day v 50 a couple of weeks ago

Yes, I went there on January 22nd and received my card on the 22nd of February. I am an easy self-sufficient pensioner though.

GnG so is that now 4 staff and 2 supervisors.... deep joy.

Lucky you....well we need to wait...what is strange that some cards are issued after a month and others 6 to 8 weeks after

seem like random  processing to me

this is turning into a nightmare, we have only been on gozo two weeks but cant get certificate of health entitlement or travel card without  ID which  doesnt exist. We were advised by one of the councils that an office was going to be opened on gozo within few days...didnt happen...in limmo as no reply to emails. Can anyone confirm the dsys and times when we can travel there, stand in the neverending queue, to make an appointment. Friends of ours, in the same situation, stood for hours yesterday but managed to get an appointment for April 2013. Ive heard they are open monday, tuesday and thursday til 11.30 am

correct on days, but no guarantee they will see you - get there at 7am was the advice I heard when I was there yesterday

that is correct - although i know of people who have had appointments after these times

people yesterday had appointments as late as 3pm yesterday, but think they close the doors around noon

Complain to your EU ombudsman. The link below states your rights as an EU citizen within the EU.
It clearly states that you can be treated no differently than a Maltese national.
This is a direct quote from the EU website~

"Your registration certificate should be issued immediately and cost no more than the price nationals pay for identity cards.
It should be valid indefinitely (does not have to be renewed), though you may need to report any change of address to the local authorities."

A frined went yetarday and queue from 6 am to 9:30 am and was given an appoitment for end of May....

Also , as he is non EU...the EU spouse should apply for him and submit the application....

to be on the safe side I would agree that you should show income or capital yourself.

Once you are accepted it doesn't really matter. But as you are applying you need to show.
