Thanks Ricky

Popova A

Any idea if the office will be open tomorrow? I mean Castille office?

georgeingozo

The office should be open - tomorrow is a normal day officially, but you might find many of the staff don't turn up.

ricky

Hi ,

my (non-EU) partner was called up by a language school director to work free-lance tomorrow as the Maltese teacher was not going to turn up !

What would they do without us EU or even non-EU citizens -)))

Cheers

Wow....agree :)
Any news about the cards? I called last friday and the lady told me " if you have your acknowledgement , the car will be issued" but my worry is when?  .... :/

deborap7

I heard that the new ID cards will be issued at Gozo Offices too. Is that true? I really hope so!

georgeingozo

Fingerprints are for Maltese and non-EU

rainbow3

Okay, thankyou george, does that include non EU partners of EU citizens?

You are wekcome.....if you need anything else let me know :)

tennis11

No, expatriates are not being fingerprinted.

rainbow3

Okay, thankyou tennis, two different answers to the question, now I am really confused, lol!

georgeingozo

My wife, non eu but applied as family member of eu citizen didn't do fingerprints

rainbow3

...hmmm i dont know then.....my mum husband also applied as a family member of an EU citizen but they took his fingerprints...and when i asked why...they said TCN we require fingerprints....in any case i suggest that you call The dept for clarification.

rainbow3

Maybe it depends on the nationality of the EU citizen who is applying or maybe the person dealt with their application incorrectly?  Thanks again for your answer though Popova, I will just wait and see what happens and report back, we have received no reply to our email for an appointment yet so there is no rush :)

michael78

What is the problem of giving fingerprints? I dont really understand.

rainbow3

There is no problem, I was just enquiring about the procedure and other people's experiences so I know what to expect when we go to our appointment

Hi

I am moving to Malta in may with my husband. We are both EU nationals from Uk and I am looking to work as a teacher. however, I need an id card in oreer to apply for my police conduct certificate and permit for teaching. Is there any way of getting the id card.quicker so i can start working as soon as possible?

georgeingozo

You can apply for an appointment now, but say you want it in early June.

Same here. My partner is non-EU(US) and fingerprints were not taken.

Her status on the receipt is : Family Member of an EU National/NON-EU

There was a long discussion on her classification between our clerk and the director about the way to process the application.

Certainly when we applied the staff did not know the correct procedure (or they had different ideas about what the correct procedure was), all down to lack of staff training.

As for fingerprinting I have no problem other than it should be for all or no one, otherwise its discrimination!

Terry

georgeingozo

My understanding is that it's against EU regulations for Malta to ask for the fingerprints from a non Maltese EU citizen for the purpose of a residence document

ricky

Of course my non-EU partner is not an EU citizen but it seems that on the grounds of her existing residence document she was seen to be entitled to the same rights as an EU citizen ie - no finger prints!

So maybe they make a difference between re-applying and new applications.

Am i right in thinking that you cannot apply for an id card for working unless you have been offered work? The form I have seen to apply for an id card for purposes of working has a section to put employers details. Not sure how this would work though as I want to be a TEFL teacher and I am not going to get offers of work without the EFL permit which requires me to get an ID card.

Any advice?

Today, I have emailed to request an appointment so fingers crossed I get one for May/June time.

georgeingozo

ID cards no longer exist for foreigners, but have been replaced by the eresidence document

rooikat

We have sent 3 emails (since February) from the UK requesting an appointment for residency - no success. The last two emails were returned as 'email box full.' We have resigned ourselves to applying for an appointment in person after we arrive on 13 April :/

Unless of course the unexpected is what you expected and then it becomes not unexpected (otherwise known as Maltese).:D
