has anyone heard news of an extension to the expiry dates of the old id cards - i heard yesterday that they may have extended the dates to october 2013......

me3512

no news on the expiration, but I thought I'd update...   My appointment for the new call was Feb 22, so I'm soon coming up on 60 days with no reply.

Not surprised, just an update.    Anyone else heard anything ?

tearnet

Eight weeks since our appointment and still no sign of our new E-ID.

LATEST - from the British High Commission - Joseph Portelli - today  - UK in Malta - British High Commission Valletta David, The Department of Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs (DCEA) has given us the following information which includes confirmation that residency status is not affected by any delays on the part of the DCEA.

If you have already requested an appointment, please do not send another email or letter to chase. Your residency status is not affected by any delays on the part of the DCEA.
The Department is also prepared to accept requests for appointments either by ordinary mail or email. Write to: eResidence Section, Department of Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs, 3 Castile place, 2nd Floor, Valletta OR email:eresidence.mfa@gov.mt. If you know you will be away from Malta over the summer and early autumn months, please indicate this in your request.
The DCEA is unable to send acknowledgements for receipt of emails or letters other than when your appointment is advised to you. Currently appointments are being scheduled for September.
Existing ID numbers are being transferred over to the new eResidence Cards for a variety of administrative reasons. This will mean that the same ID number can be quoted when dealing with authorities.

georgeingozo

thanks :-)

so no mention on validity of current ID cards, or indeed the old residency certificates ?

Toon

no not at all thats my next question to Joseph

Toon

maybe we just assume that if you have an appointment letter then your card and or res certificate is valid

Toon

surely they have to make an announcement to everyone about extendingthe validity of both cards and certificates.

Yesterday I used my old ID card...in Malta and Gozo..on the buses, on the ferry, on the train - maybe not on this :)- and it has been accepted everywhere! :)  but i'm always waiting for my appointment by email....

Popova A

I had use mine at the bank and at Transport Malta :) but still waiting for the New e-card to be issued.....just waiting lol

georgeingozo

had it refused on the Gozo tunnel today :-)

ricky

Gozo tunnel ?

That doesn't surprise me -))))) Might have to do with Gozo though ... or you could swim .

Try the ferry next time ............

Cheers
Ricky

georgeingozo

oh, the tunnel doesn't go to Malta

ash73

Just to say I had mine refused at HSBC Sliema, the bus and trying to register my kids at public school. Good week all round for an EU citizen living in the EU!!!!

From the British High Commission Valletta today
Thank you for your additional points. It is clear there is a large amount of uncertainty about the eResidence cards and residence status for those people waiting for appointments, as well as issues for new arrivals seeking residence status.

The questions you ask are ultimately for the Maltese authorities to respond to. Nevertheless, our Consular team are making enquiries and will make the Maltese authorities aware of the issues being raised and the concern the uncertainty is generating.

received official confirmation that
1. validity of ID cards will be extended up till the end of November.
2. plans to open an office in Gozo.

me3512

you don't know if this info will be made public anywhere per chance ?

Toon

sounds like they are getting themselves sorted out - well to a point.

yes, "very soon"

georgeingozo

the page on the mfa website with all the details of the eResidence docs has disappeared from their main menu

Toon

It maybe because the MFA are now nothing to do with it - it will be controlled by the DCEA and theyre said to be moving to the old id card office in the Evans building

georgeingozo

it comes under the same ministry though, but you could be right, or maybe an announcement is about to happen (ie in the next couple of weeks ...)

rg4784

Appears to now be under a different ministry:

georgeingozo

nice one - so as happens so many times, the government fails to provide links when they move things around

Is this still at Castille Place or do we need to go somewhere else for our appointment?

georgeingozo

its still at the same department, but the department falls under a different ministry, so I'd assume same place

Okay, thankyou, hopefully if the venue does change it will be announced or put on that website.

Toon

i am getting another bad feeling about this - a bad start is often completed by a shambles....

georgeingozo

it will be all right in the end, and if it isn't all right it isn't the end, or as Keyne's put it "in the long run we are all dead"
