No , not really ! Just the Maltese way of knowing somebody who knows somebody at ministerial level!
It helps to be well networked within the Maltese society.
In this case just the mention helped !
Cheers
Ricky
Great! You've waited long enough. Hope someone is rapped over the knuckles!!
Ricky, it was Jonathan that I was dealing with and found him extremely helpful. It was my application that required extra paper work which is why he contacted me. Once that was all sorted out in a couple of days, he approved it then sent it for printing. I replied back enquiring about my 2 children's applications and he said that their files might have been mislayed as they couldn't locate them. He emailed me back the next day to say they had been found and he had approved them and sent them for printing. The letter saying I could pick them up arrived the next week.
Jonathan does seem to get things done!
Hi Sparkie,
thanks for the info ! He seems to work miracles and find lost files within 30 minutes in our case -)))
I just hope 'loosing' files and applications doesn't happen too often !
I'm hopeful as our's was just a re-application but we still supplied them with all up-to-date documents.
Thanks for the info.
Ricky
Given that the e-Residence Card shambles is partly financed by European Regional Development Funding, the European Commission Legal Officer, Christian Bulzomi, who is investigating this case, would be most interested to learn of:
Mislaid files and re-applications.

i'd say the mislaying of files is a daily occurence by the mess they seem to be in and the fact they have moved yet again......i dont think its a one off.
and as for knowing someone who knows someone - situation normal - not many will be in that position for sure.
did I get correctly that I as a persom from EU country and employed on Malta will just need to fill out form "Form A" and copy of my ID card and that's it?
or do I need some other docs as well' like a copy of my work contract?
Also - my wife and kids will be coming on malta in september, can I ask for ID card for them altough they are still not here?
best to take it and not need it than to need it and not take it.!!!!

They asked me for the ETC work history sheet. If you go into Valletta ETC (which is turn right after opera house, then first left...it is on the right,) and ask for it. Think it cost 2 or 3 euro.
you also need to fill out the ID card form as well, sorry, forgot the name for it.
Oh and passport...can't think of anything else but I am sure someone will comment and help!
U will get a mail from ETC with your registration details, if your emloyer registered u, that is enough, or if u dont have it, then u have to bring the contract.
No, if your children are not with u, u can't because they take pictures for the id.
Every required document is listed on the downloadable forms (FORM A, etc..)

Unless as EU member you apply by post and have photos certified.

the form says "date of first settlement here" so I presume not

Hmm, yes, but I wonder who will do it without knowing the family or meeting with the kids.

No one, I wasn't suggesting that, just that they do not have to have their pictures taken at the department.
bank managers will do it - its not about certifying they know the person(s) its about true likeness in terms of the photos. the rest is simply certifying the copies are true copies... nothing to do with identity.
Hi all,
guess what !?
Today we received by regular mail the information that our 'residence permit card/document' is now ready for collection.
We are kindly requested to bring our passports and 'Interim Permit(application receipt) when collecting our residence document.
So :
1) You receive the information by mail when the cards are ready for collection
2)You need the Interim Permit (application receipt) to collect the cards.
So wish us luck that our cards are actually sitting there waiti ng to be collected -)))
Cheers
Ricky
so what about the hundreds who have applied and dont have the interim receipt as they've stopped issuing them?????? or indeed the ones who have applied by post and not even had an acknowledgement. reminds me of arriva - we just have to wait and wait wait. at least arriva have a nice fire to keep you warm in winter.
Hi Seat,
thanks.
Yes, it seems that the department is not quite sure whether to call them permits or documents (no Byron, I'm not going to sign a petition).
I guess it is learning by doing!
My next report will be from the Evans building after collecting the ilusive cards.
Cheers
Ricky
not wishing any further delays - but i know of one person who has the letter and went to get the permits and they were not ready at all......they were then requested to come back in two weeks
Well done Ricky, hope it goes well when you go and pick up your cards, I was going to say the same thing as toon, those of us who applied by post have received no acknowledgement of our applications or an interim receipt to take with us so hopefully they will remember that when (eventually) they send out our letters to say our cards are ready to be picked up!
Hi toon,
I hope we are luckier !
I also got e-mail confirmation from two different people at the DCEA that our cards are ready for collection as they were marked and processed as 'urgent'
So I'll report back in either case!
Cheers
Ricky
am not bothered about them remembering about the lack of receipt issue - just that they remember to produce and issue the permits.... simple enough task

probably to do with the pressure you put on them R
it would seem that everybody may need to do the same then..... to get a result
Hi toon,
what surprises me is that despite 1189 post on this thread and 64901 views I still meet Expats every day who have no idea and don't even care and don't intend to apply for the new residence cards.
They have the old ID card and thats it !
Cheers
Ricky

I was meaning that if they dont remember we havent got a receipt then they may ask us for something we havent got before they allow us to pick up our new cards, if you see what I mean?
Hi rainbow,
If you get as far as getting the letter to collect your cards I wouldn't worry too much about the rest !
By then they have obviously processed your application.
I doubt if they would want to sit on your processed and approved registrations , whether with or without the receipt!
Cheers
ricky
maybe they just mislaid them!!!
I must admit i come across many of those people too Ricky.

Thanks Ricky, hopefully you are right
Hi all,
as of today we are the proud owners of e-residence cards valid for 5 years.
The collection did not take too long, just make sure the security guards don't put you in the long line waiting to apply.
The cards are issued in room 25. You have to present the receipt, sign it and they give you your card. They don't even look at your passport or the letter saying that your card is ready for collection.
And while we were there everybody collecting e-residence cards did have the bluish receipt , so make sure you get one when you apply.
Cheers
Ricky
Hi Ricky
Well done. Don't move house or change your details for goodness sake, stay put and enjoy!
Was yours for permenant residency? Why is it valid for 5 years?
Caroline
Hi Caroline,
no,it wasn't for permanent residency - just ordinary residency.
There is an accompanying letter stating that:
'May I draw your attention to the fact that the expiry date on the said document refers only to the electronic and security features of the card. This time limit is without prejudice to your rights under Community Law'
Maybe someone can explain what that means?
Cheers
Ricky
I am guessing it's just for the ID bit of the card and would presume that the Maltese cards will expire after 5 years too. Maybe to update the photo and info.
The residency aspect is guided by different rules?

Interesting, we collected our cards but no letter.
just had a reply from the MHAS customer care to my email of yesterday
"Further to your request hereunder, and according to the Department of CEA, you may wish to note that it is expected that they will be ready in the next few weeks."
