Buying in UAE and driving in Bahrain

Hi dispatcher,

Sorry I have no clue about that.
I know it's possible because I know people who used to live in UAE and moved to BH with their cars.
Import taxes on goods are usually 5%, but again on a used car, I don't know what applies.

I am in that situation exactly. I am living in UAE and looking at importing my car (which is dear to me) to Bahrain, as I am looking to move there.

Does anyone know the procedures etc, to import the car from the UAE to Bahrain?

At some point I was interested in following the same path (more choice of cars and better price in some cases at UAE) but after asking advice from the company guy that deals with permits etc I was informed that if I wanted to do that the car will have to be bought on the name of a bahraini national in order to be able to import in Bahrain and then once in the country then we will have to make the transfer in my name.

Too big risk and hassle in my opinion to do that hence I did not follow that proposition through.

Hi Capriole - Agree, this is too much of a risk. However, I don't think what your colleague told you about importing in the name of a Bahraini is correct. A former expatriate colleague of mine brought down his car from the UAE when he relocated to Bahrain and he got all approvals and permits on his own name.
