Urgent Ladies please !

Post new topic

Acorn

Hi people esp ladies ! Seeing as being a lady in Saudi is so soul chrushingly boring on your own. My husband lives in a flat, not in a compound and I don't speak Arabic!

I'm in desparate need of some females to go out and about with while hubby working and not allowed out on my own! Anyone got any ideas pls??????

Bored beyond belief!

Anna

What would 'Urgent Ladies' mean?

Welcome aboard, Hope ExpatBlog will help killing the boredom.

Acorn

Welcome Acorn ro KSA !! :)

EB and FB kept me sane in the first couple of months over here and then I became insane.:lol:

Dont worry its not that bad !!

Cheers

I hear you Acorn, I been here 3 months and I am unable to cope with my boredom life, probably I wouldn't be able to overcome it and if I had a chance to leave on first month I would had without any hesitation but my employer gave me a choice to pay two months salary plus my ticket to Canada so I decided to stay because I couldn't afford to pay penalty .The only way to kill the boredom life is making new friends and creating a social circle.Welcome to Riyadh and good luck.

Hi Acorn,

We know what you mean and there's no quick solution to that problem. However, there are a few activities for women around here. For example, there's a networking event for women happening on the 30th at the Outback. Maybe you can start with that. :)

Acorn

Thanks all for being so welcoming.

I went out to Olya mall this morning and was groped by male shop assistant in Etam.

So wont be venturing out alone again!

Thanks for ideas and suggestions.

Acorn

Acorn

@ Acorn - Hope he got the fierce treatment !!!

Some will give it a go - I think it's when you look unsure of yourself - Happened to me when I first moved out here and I was buying an abaya. The South London chick soon landed when that happened though - I got a free abaya after that, dude near enough s*** himself

Acorn

Husband and I will be going back later to make some noise! Was afraid if I said or did anything that I had not got a leg to stand on as I was out on my own. Hubby wants to lynch him!!!! Can't understand this place. Like a prison for women!

Loopylou sad to hear happened to you. Wish I couldve done something myself😝

LoopyLou87

Seriously don't worry about creating noise over it alone or not and especially if you are in the malls just crack on.

You will settle in soon enough - it is not so bad and not such a prison once you get a few friends a get more acustom to the weirdness

Alliecat

So sorry this happened to you.  I once had a salesman 'inadvertently' touch my hand twice when I was looking at abayas in Deira.

First time, okay.  Second time? I looked him straight in the eye and told him that if he touched me again he'd be dead.

Needless to say, he didn't touch me again.

And please, DON'T think you can't go out by yourself.  I do it all the time.  That jerk in Deira was the only 'incident' for me and it wasn't even a big deal (just I wasn't about to let him get away with anything).

Ahmed Riyadh

i feel u, there are no such a social places in Riyadh that let you meet new ppl even for men, so my suggestion would be that you can go to regular coffee shop and try to talk to locals, there are lots of educated women who will be so glad taking to u, and they could hook you up with many activites more than what you expect

Saudi's won't hook you up with anything.  In fact, something that annoys me is the many Saudi nationals who come to this forum trying to get us expats to hook them up with activities.

And for the record, joining a quilting club is an 'activity'?  Or going to a make-up 'exhibition'?  Excuse me???  Aren't these more like acts of desperation? lol

Darkbluestar

Hi all from a Newbee

Moving to Riyadh next week. Happy to try an organise any appropriate activities for ladies when I get settled in.  I used to be a county community and youth worker so if I could be of help, I would be pleased to network and see where it goes.

The American community of Riyadh welcomes all expats. Also, there is a group in riyadh called ladies about town.

The American Community, however, explicitly requests you NOT to give out their mailing info, email, etc., to people who haven't been 'approved' (for lack of a better word).

They want to have some control over their functions and who can blame them?

iamthere

Well, if they have a website where you can book an event on-line, I wonder how much control they have.  Also, I didn't put a link for their website. Can you edit what I put on here, so I don't violate either your rules or theirs.

Alliecat

Please, I'm just advising you of what is stated at the top of their newsletters.  It's not violating my rules or the rules of the forum :)  I'd just hate to see people here disappointed because I'd gotten the impression that this group is trying to have more of a handle on its functions.  Of course, I could be totally wrong!

And btw, welcome to the forum!

Well at times you can get away by voilating the EB-forum's rule, but I bet you wud never be able to get away by voilating the Cat's rules !!! :)
