Car hire without an Iqama.

Post new topic

Hi all,

After changing my sponsor, I have just returned to Jeddah to await my new Iqama, I have been to a car rental company today to be turned away, as my Saudi driving licence is attached to my old Iqama...

Is there a way around this, as the thought of being without a car for the next month just does not work?

I'm surprised to hear that your KSA driving licence becomes invalid if you change your iqama due to change of employer.
..can someone else confirm this please just in case the OP has been given some bad information.

The Govt Affairs branch of EB (ME) confirms :)

Let me explain why:
Every Iqama# is unique. Thus new iqama# means new number. And the driving license ID is always SAME as iqama#. So getting a new iqama voids the old driving license.

Now the good part:
Getting a new driving license is damn easy. Just visit any driving license office (called DALLAH) and ask them for a new driving license telling them the situation. In 10 minutes, you'll get a new card with number same as your new iqama number.
