A Vegetarian in the city of Frankensteins :D

Post new topic

Hi everybody,

Do you have any idea where to find vegetarian food in Riyadh?
I'm staying at a hotel till the end of this month or till I find an accommodation. I don't know how to cook, I'm a vegetarian and in the past 5 days I hardly found suitable food to eat (but eating cheese, pasta and pizza daily won't be a good idea) all I find is rice, chicken and meat.
Does anyone here knows where I can find vegetarian restaurants?

Thanks in advance :)

Baldwins

btw, I'm not being judgmental by saying Frankensteins, but it's just crazy seeing that much restaurants and all they offer are just rice and meat

Wrong country to be a non meat eater. I can count on one hand how many places in jeddah, i cant imagine riyadh.

Ask in the "native saudi" thread. he is a good help

Every restaurant I have been in has has veggie options - maybe try places like applebies, TGIFriday etc. Turkish places have loads of vegitarian options. When you drive past places just grab their menus a lot of them deliver if you didnt want to eat out the whole time - but I suggest you learn to cook else it will become very expensive ... Then you can just make a bunch of stuff on a friday and just grab it from the fridge/freezer through the week

Exactly what I do and Lou is right, Baldwin.  Thing about Riyadh is that there is an amazing assortment of fresh veggies, dried beans, etc. available at the food stores due to the many nationalities in this country.  Start with your favorite veggie and begin to google recipes and take it from there.  It's FUN!

My 2 pence in this matter. youtube is a great chefs assistant. Simple veg dishes can be cooked right!
and from my experience, cooking meat is much more difficult, when compared to the greens..

Thanks loopylou87, it's fun though that meat here is cheaper than veggies food at restaurants :D

Yes Alliecat, but the thing is I still have sometime before settling down and find an accommodation (finding accommodations for singles here isn't that easy) so I have to depend on fast food, at least for this month.

Oh yes, I forgot that part lol  Okay, then here's my up-dated suggestion, then:  I'm not a big proponent of food-court 'cruisine,' but that might be where you can wander and pick and choose what to eat.  A few of those fish/chip places (like London Fish) have baked potatoes with a huge assortment of toppings you can choose from.  Yum! Yum!

Also, a lot of the chinese foods are vegetarian.

Most Indian, Chinese, and Middle East restaurants generally have a good selection of vegetarian items.  But you should learn to cook; it will save you money in the long run.  Plus, cooking doesn't have to be complicated.  For example, if you have access to a microwave, you could easily cook a whole potato and add your favorite toppings for a quick, hearty meal. Yum!
