Hi, I am a teacher and was offered a job in Antalya starting in September. I was looking for some information on what life is like for an American woman to live in Antalya. I have heard it's not safe to live there as an American or a woman, so I was looking for opinions of those who already live there. Are there many ex-pat communities and things to do in Antalya?

stefania_taksim

I don't live in Antalya but I know a lot of people who do.  There is quite a big expat community I believe so you won't be alone.  If you are so nervous about Turkey why are you coming here?  Antalya is a huge tourist resort where every second person is a foreigner in the tourist season!

tifkgjt86

I want to go to Antalya, but just want to get more information on the area. It's not that I am nervous, just want to make sure its safe that's all.

stefania_taksim

If it wasn't safe, why would it be such a huge tourist resort?

HI THERE,

I have been living in Antalya for years and years and I would say it's a very safe place.  Like anywhere you avoid dark alleyways late at night but that's only commonsense.
I'm also a teacher!  I worked here at private schools for many many years.
There's lots to do here and a huge expat community so there's always plenty on here.
When you get here you can contact me if you want and I'll show you around a bit.

There are a few expat websites here too where you can meet people and lots of concerts, ballet, music festivals and it's a great place to live

tifkgjt86

Jade thank you so much for the information! I just wanted an insiders opinion of the area and as someone who has lived there and no just toured. And it's nice to know you are a teacher as well :)It sounds and looks like a beautiful place!

If you ever want to talk then just message me :) xx

jadegl

hi there,
thanks for the message.  Could you tell me which school has made you an offer.  I know a lot of the schools here and can tell you which ones are good and which ones are not!!!  I'm a teacher myself and have worked all over the place here in Antalya.

Have a nice weekend,
Jade

Hi Jade,
so I work for an American company called Nacel. They have programs all over the world and are just starting a partnership with a school in Turkey. I do not know the name yet. However, Nacel is a very good company and usually only does business with great schools. If I find out the name I will let you know. It's so nice to know that you are willing to help. I greatly appreciate it. I love being a teacher and hope to continue in Turkey!

Heyyy,

Antalya is pretty safe, try not to worry about it. I am an American as well, and I moved here in December. I was pretty skeptical at first also, because of not knowing the area or the culture to much, but I love it here. Are you moving here long term, or just for a few months? If you have any questions you can always message me, my husband is a turk, so maybe he can also answer some of your questions as well.

tifkgjt86

Mrs. Tav, thanks for your response. It makes me feel better knowing so many ex-pats are living in Antalya and so many women! I dont have any specific questions just yet. I guess just are there many things to do at night and on the weekends?

jadegl

Good morning from Antalya,

thanks for the message.  I hope that you will be sent to a great school here - and pse let me know which one when you know more.

Antalya is a great place and I'm sure you will love it here if you can adapt to the Turkish culture.

Have a great day,
Jade

There is nothing you should be worry about Antalya ,this is the city with full of tourists from all around world specially summer time moreover there are many foreigners are permanent residence here also

Antalya is inter-nation city and number 2 attraction after istanbul  for tourists ,safe and secure
every summer i visit antalya for sun ,sea and sand quite nice city

i had live different states of united state but mostly  San Francisco CA .i can say it is as safe as CA even maybe safer :)
about climate ,it is sunny and worm all the time of year ,the sea is nice

this year again i will be in Antalya between  1th-15th june   :)

take care

Hi there,

Well not sure where you obtained the info that it is not safe for an American woman to live in Antalya. I would say that in general you would not have a problem. However, being on your own? you need to be careful when going out as Turkish men can charm the birds out of the trees. I was once told by a very good Turkish friend, Never Trust a Turk.I was shocked by this statement, which unfortunately a few years ago I forgot. As for what there is to do I would say plenty. Antalya is the 5th biggest city in Turkey and has all the amenities one would expect to find in any major city.

Good luck xx

Americans that can point out a country on map don't worry:) . Many Americans or even Europeans think turkey is part Saudi Arabia . I have seen several so.

kteach008

I was wondering if you took the job and how it was for you?  I am looking to teach for Nacel at Final schools in Turkey (Samsun and Adana are the choices).  What was your school like?  Any problems?  Any information would be helpful.  Thank you in advance!

Antalya şs one of the most beautiful places to live, and not only in Turkey, but also in the whole world.

When you go to Antalya, you won't want to go back to your country any more. When you leave Antalya, you will miss there so much,
it is an indispensable and unforgettable place.

Erenapostrof

@piu_blu

antalya is very nice city and it is safe enough

aidalize_me

The only problem I had in Antalya is that men thought I was Russian, which is exactly the kind of attention you don't want, if you catch my drift. Be careful and make sure its clear your not one!
