RehabDoctor

Hi all.
I have been a silent observer of this forum for some time and have found it very useful with lots of information for expats. I have enjoyed the enthusiasm and contributions from some of very active members.
A brief intro about my self. I am a medical doctor working in NHS UK. I am working as consultant in rehabilitation medicine at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London. I was successful in a interview held for a consultant rehabilitation medicine post at King Fahd Medical City, Riyadh. Now my details are with credentialing committee and awaiting their decision.
Can some one working at KFMC share there experince of working conditions at hospital and residential compound.

An observation, new iPad is available at Jarir with face time, means next iPhone may be available with face time.
I'll try to be regular contributor where possible.

haven't worked in KFMCR but its definitely one of the best govt hospitals in kingdom..  only KFSHR is rated above it. and although Saudis are not v polite when it comes to rehab but still i am sure it would be your best time here. have few specialists there of Pakistani origin as internist who i know and they rated hospital good enough although patient load is also heavy ! Are u fellow of royal college of Edinburgh too?? welcome to kingdom !!! :)
P.S yeah jarir got good offers all the time :)

I hope i dont get scathed for this, but i hear along the grapevine that if you are born, bred and raised in the UK, but of asian/indian/pakistani/bengali origin, then you will not be favoured upon in the hospitals as are the 'indigenous english' white people working at the hospitals

disclaimer; this is what i hear from British born n bred people working in hospitals in Riyadh. Even still, apparently they are the lucky ones as they managed to even get a job there, as 'indigenous english' white people are more favoured for the roles then non-white British born n bred

well the discrimination does exist but only up to the level of pay what you will get.. in that too it depends more on the passport you posses and not on the skin color.. also on the institution it depends a lot e.g a fellow of royal college of surgeons, Edinburgh would certainly be payed more than the fellow of royal college of surgeons, Ireland/Dublin. so its not fair enough to pin point it towards skin color only.. if you are a Brit born doc with no good experience\qualifications then you can never grab a high post..

DrHassanMalik

btw its strange that they considered your dip for rehab rather tan your expertise in orthopedics.. saudis!

@DrHassanMalik, I have completed training in rehabilitation medicine with award of CCT and on GMC specialist register for rehabilitation medicine. Also my current employment is as consultant in rehabilitation medicine. I gave up orthopaedics 8 yrs ago but it is helping me alot with musculo-skeletal rehabilitation.
