2 Canucks in Albania!

Post new topic

Hi everyone! How lovely to discover this forum and website. We are 2 Canadians living and working (one gets paid and the other is a perpetual volunteer!) in Tirana, Albania. We've lived abroad for more than 11 years now in these cities: Amsterdam, Bucharest, Prague, Bratislava, and now here. It's a wonderful life as long as you're flexible and can laugh at little annoyances! You can read my blog at  http://acrossthelana.blogspot.com/ and learn more about living in this highly unusual country.

Welcome kimmi59!

What a great experience :) Isn't it too complicated to move inside Europe when you're Canadian?

Do you find a new job each time you move or are you working for the same company?

Take care,

Julien

I was about to forget: you should add your blog address in profile > personal, this way we'll see your blog address in all your posts ;)

Well moving (crossing borders, packing house etc) isn't hard for us because my husband works for a very large organization. The hard part about moving is readjusting to new situations, especially socially. After a few moves you really wonder if it's worth even trying to make new friends since you have to leave them sometime in the future. I have to make a real effort to go our and find other expat women. It is so much easier to just stay home and feel sorry for myself. But I don't let that happen, and I always find wonderful friends. With the internet we can stay in touch for as long as we like.

I exactly know what you mean! It's been very hard for me to find new friend when I left England for Spain ... It was much easier to stay at home and watch TV than gofing out and meet other people :/

Yes the internet is a fantastic tool, you can feel very close from your family and your friends!

I actually hope that expat-blog will help you to find new friends ;)

All the best,

Julien
