1st week in Kuwait

Post new topic

Coach P

I'm from Ohio. I'm living in Maidan Hawalli and have been here for a week.

I'm an Assistant Coach for the Kuwait National Football Team. (American football here)

crittle73

Oh, that sounds interesting. Welcome! How do you like Kuwait so far?

Satcomguy

American football??? REALLY!!!
Just to be absolutely clear... We are not talking about kicking around a round black and white ball right where you can't use your hands right?
We are talking about full contact hard nose FOOTBALL... that has a passing game, hands included?

Really???

Coach P

It's been great. The people I've worked with have been better than expected.

Yeah it's the real football. I don't mess around with that other type of ball.

crittle73

Satcomguy- Do you miss the pigskin? :D

I was just thinking the other day about how I will be going to Kuwait right before the college football season begins. It makes me a little sad. That and my dog will be the things I will miss most about home. :(

crittle73

Oh, oh, oh!! I wanna come to a game!!!!!

Coach P

Definitely. The games won't be for awhile. We need a few more months of practice.

I'm working on getting ESPN so I don't miss the college season.

Ha! Coach P is my new best friend!! Saturdays at your place! LOL

Who's your team?

Coach P

I always follow Ohio State but I like watching pretty much everybody.

Who do you like?

crittle73

Oh geez...another Buckeye! Guess I should've known that from your intro. :| At least you aren't a Bama boy!  I'm an Auburn Tiger, win or lose. I will watch almost anything though. I don't keep up with NFL...I am a southern girl after all!

Satcomguy

ME... FSU!!!
GO NOLES!!!
Crittle... I thought you are from GA? WTF?

Satcomguy

Coach P...
You are getting paid to coach football here?
Really? Where do you practice? Who will your team be playing against when they do play? Are we talking like Pro, Simi-Pro? What?
I want some details! I love football!!! And I know a little bit too... what are you coaching exactly? What is the defensive and offensive schemes?

crittle73

FSU?? Puh-leez. I live in Georgia now. Grew up in Alabama and graduated from Auburn University. War Eagle! Are you from Florida, Satcom?

Coach P

Satcom

It is a job that I was brought over here to do. We're looking to develop a league and also play in international competitions.

It's a little early for all the other details as I've only been here a short time. I'm coaching the defense though.

miss crittle - Roll Tide

legacy

Coach P you'd be interested to know that your friends from across the pond have their own presence in their version of your game, although without the fancy body-armor.

if your team is looking for some local competition, given the few minor differences of passing forward etc. I'm sure they'd prove a very worthwhile experience. they have a pitch down in Ahmadi too.

Coach P

yes there is legacy - RUGBY!!! awesome sport without the protective gear.

nothing better than watching this sport which is similar to american football. Being scottish, I am looking forward to watch my first american football game when i arrive in Kuwait.

Crittle - Guess ill have to pick a team since we will be hanging out :)

Ally

legacy

well Ally u'll be in for a good surprise when u find out u can also catch live rugby games (courtesy of the blokes we just mentioned), as well as probably run into a few friends when the ladies host the Gulf rugby ladies team in Kuwait (i co-ordinated the airport pick up for them ladies, fine bunch, don't hit on 'em or else they'll hit u)

Aaand SCG, saturday mornings, 8am, salmiya park, opposite the international clinic, u'll find a bunch of "Yanks" playing flag football. now sometimes they skip saturdays, but if they're there, it'll be at that time. my contact with that group is currently travelling, so i'll let u know how to get in on the action (if u want) when they get back.

Moo

Hi Coach P and welcome to Kuwait and EB

Coach P

Mr. Moo - thank you.

Legacy - I'd like to go watch those guys play sometime.

crittle73

Coach P- Don't not utter those blasphemous words to me again!  :P I don't like that crimson wearing team!

Ally- I will be more than willing to guide you in choosing a team. You CAN NOT be a fan of a team called Alabama Crimson Tide. That is your first guideline. :D

lme

Ally, Crittle is from down south where they take their college football quite seriously. Up north here we are more into the NFL.  Crittle I guess I will have to also rely on your expertise in selecting a team to follow.

Coach P

Roll Tide over war eagle all day long.

crittle73

Lme- I got you! Maybe you can teach me a thing or two about NFL. :D Yes, college football has been compared to a religion down here. We take it quite seriously! Auburn is my alma mater, so naturally that is my team. Just saw a sad story on the news today, reporting that two of the Auburn players were shot and killed last night. Another one was shot and injured.  :(

Coach P- You keep loving the good ole boys with the elephant mascot, as long you get that ESPN up and running. Back in Bama, we wouldn't speak to one another though. :P

legacy

Coach P, my pleasure - which group are you referring to tho; the flag footballers or the jolly rugby bunch?

Coach P

Both would be fun to watch.

Coach P

Great! any volunteers to show me the American sport that is football is greatly welcomed. However i must warn you that it will never replace rugby in my heart :D

hhhh...my dear, the real football is the european one (you know it ,in america,as soccer )....
american football is an unfortunete mix between soccer and rugby...
rugby is better 100 times than american football....

Coach P

It's all an opinion on what people like. Where I'm from the great athletes and play either football, basketball, baseball, and now mma.

American football must be okay seeing that every country is starting to play it.

Yay! You can teach me the ins and outs of rugby. I went to a few intramural games in college. It was interesting.

Does anyone play lacrosse over there? My ex-boyfriend played, and I had fun watching. Still don't fully understand the game though.
