Good Morning Expats of Q8!

Language is often cited as the most difficult barrier to overcome, gesticulation can only get you so far!

We are often faced with hiccups in our daily lives that require an injection of local lingo to facilitate a better understanding of the task at hand. Whether you are negotiating with a taxi, paying your rent, or just lost and need directions, having a handy app to get you out of hot water is always beneficial.

Now, smart phone users can opt to use GoogleTranslate, which offers an instant voice recognition and translation. However more often than not, the words are out of context!

So, how do you save yourself this embarrassment and open up a whole new market of communication with local lingo speakers? Very simple. Get this App.

This App is basically a phone number; it can be anyone's, preferably a friend who speaks Arabic, and when in a jam, simply pick up your phone and give said friend a call and ask for assistance (much like the "call a friend" lifeline on Who wants to be a millionaire)

Until such time that we all have friends who are able to converse in Arabic, feel free to send me a message and i'll give you my number, for any incidents of Loss in Translation.

I've seen expats who needed help negotiating with taxi drivers, or getting the proper form at a government office.

Sometimes you could be lucky enough to find a bilingual in your immediate vicinity when the need arises, so always keep your eyes peeled for such characters.

Have a productive (or lethargic) weekend!
