TV service providers or packages w/North American sports channels?

Good day to all,
I am one of those that don't tune into the tube too much, especially here. But, my favorite college football team is about to steamroll the American college football landscape (particular that Lucky team to the north) and make a mockery out of the NCAA and its brand of justice; and I would really like to catch every second of it.
I wonder if there are TV service providers or service packages that carry North American sports channels, like ESPN, CBS and ABC? I mean the hardcore channels, not their Asia spin-offs. Any, gang?
Thanks in advance.
Howie
How long jave you been here?
You should know that the 'approved' TV channels are available, already, on cable and VN satellite.
The only way you can get other 'unapproved' channels us by hiding the dish from view from the street, so the Cong An satellite dish inspectors can't see it, and getting your descrambler box, and card, from Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street - Q1, Cambodia or Thailand.
Given your location, Cambodia (PP) is likely your best choice.
Jaitch,
So, they do have satellite here, hey? Which provider or package is good, allows me to tune into the games on Saturdays? And generally, how much will it cost? Jaitch, it better not be an arm and a leg.
Man, I don't watch TV here. And that filtering thing is one of the reasons, so I do not know awhole lot. I am a little surprised that they allow satellites here...
For you, and Google, TV in VN is (lightly) censored winch is why all outside TV programming is delayed by approximately 15 minutes so the Big Finger can insert 'technical difficulties' and classical music in to a feed when the subjects get too hot (for VN ears).
Satellite dishes/receivers require a permit from Ha Noi that allows you to buy and operate a dish for picking up the VN satellite signals - last count there were two.
These are easy for VN to get out in the country (ever seen the area between Ha Noi and LangSon?) and Foreigners. You might qualify because of that hat you wear.
Any diplo, NGO, etc. are a push over for permits. The Permit keeps the Cong An satisfied.
Getting a dish is a small problem, getting the right receiver/decoder is more of a problem. Then there is the card - and updating. The update codes are sent by e-mail and they charge a small (especially when compared to the satellite companies) fee.
I have a HongKong bi-directional dish but it is heavily used. It is legally connected. Having a 'hot' service sometimes means occasional gaps in service when they change encryption and the hackers issue new downloads. Your light viewing can likely best be served by InterNet.
The alternative is to get a fibre-fed InterNet service, buy a VPN and then take a streaming feed from the States. I have VPNs that end in Canada, Europe and HongKong. These are fairly cheap.
There is a guy with a with a Turkish domain who specialises in VPN and television feeds.
If you do get an external service, don't do what some others have done. BYOB - Bring Your Own Booze - parties to watch The Game. It attracts the Cong An.

Although you have gotten some good feedback already, I seriously doubt that, even if you are able to get a satellite feed with American sports, you'll be able to see your favorite team. Most of the feeds I've seen are coming from the US west coast, which will be the Cali, Oregon, Washington, and other Pac 12 teams. You don't say which is your favorite team, but if it's not from the Pac 12, you may be out of luck. You won't find any system that receives direct signals from US satellites. They'll be Asian feeds from satellites that feed Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, etc. I know the NFL is big in Cambodia, and you could probably find a system that receives those signals in Vietnam, but it may not cover college sports. I wouldn't waste my time and money on any satellite dish system here unless you know someone already who has what you're looking for. Maybe someone else on this forum can steer you in the right direction. Good luck.

Isn't it obvious which team he is referring to? The loser tone! The refusal to accept one's deserving punishment, the incurable delusion of a team short on talent, big on mouth, and not the least, the envious comparison with my home team (BTW: fatwa to the infidel who made the mockery of the supreme Andrew Luck).
How many teams stupid enough to get banned from postseason play for not one but two years, four years' probation, and forfeits of an entire year's games? Only the one and only Trojans can manage that unique feat
Wild_1, I've had Kplus now for about three years, but that's not what your looking for I'm sure. This is what you need:

I shipped a decoder over here with my HHGs, got the dish and LBN here and could just barely pick-up the signal long enough to sign in. The foot print stops just right outside of Vietnam. Might be worth a try again, that was 5 years ago.

That same team is going to aninihilate you Trees, Amigo. There will be no Luck to save you this time around!!! And, we are going to give you the woods, even at 10 men short!
Saigonmonkey, my team is USC, which hates Stampford!!! Although I don't turn on the tube too often, but now, I am really bent on watching my little school dish out its own brand of punishment. It is pay-back time...
Anatta, I hope you are going to be tuning in. There will be no Luck this time; it is going to be 70 - 0, a shutout-delux, Mi Amigo.
TOTAL ANNIHILATION!!!
Anatta,
The cavalry will be called in!!!
Say your prayers now, Amigo.
I'm from SOUTHEASTERN USA, where the REAL college football is played! You guys from the Left coast go ahead and fight over who reigns supreme in your little football world, and we'll see who's playing again for all the marbles next January. :-) Although they are NOT my team, I grew up thinking USC was the Gamecocks. What?... there's another USC somewhere? :-)

The satellite coverage footprints that cover VN are weak as the (paying) customer count is low.
SCTV has an antenna farm atop it's building in Q3 and you will see, if you are technically adept, that they are using higher gain, as in larger size, antennae to catch non-VN channels such as Discovery or Nat Geo. Most all of the "translated/sub-titled channels" come through Ha Noi where, just outside the city, they have a humongous antenna farm that is also where they transmit their programming to the VN satellites which serve both broadcast stations and the individual privately owned receivers.
I am surprised to hear that reception is poor in Can Tho given it's proximity to Cambodia which is an 'open' country for satellite reception (and where many VN subscribers have accounts to pay their sat bills).
I'm not into entertainment broadcast TV but over the w/e, using a one metre dish, I could pick up about 17 channels with decent signal/noise ratios (lack of 'hash' to the non-technical.
I wonder, Budman1, what your antenna installer used to set up the antenna - just a compass or electronic test equipment?
Jaitch I was refering to the AFN signal. The Kplus comes in great always has. Funny thing though I didn't have to get permisson from Hanoi. On another note the time delay is 30 min, not 15.
Anatta,
If I am watching youtube and the screen freezes, what happens there? Tell me man, so I can watch my USC destroy you trees.
Saigonmonkey,
Sorry I missed your post. So... You are from "the conference", hey? The University of South Carolina that you are referring to is tOUSC. THE USC wears Cardinal and Gold; and this one often steamrolls its SEC opponents. If you don't believe me, ask any Arkansas or Auburn fan.
I really hope we will make it to the NC this year and there will be an SEC opponent, preferably Alabama. No, we don't want LSU now because they will have an excuse, "the Honey Badger" had been kicked off the team.
In all seriousness though, I would be happy to just watch any game here, regardless of conference or affiliation. The soccer thing is killing me, bro.
Howie
SECmonkey,
Yes, I did see your PM. But, being a technologically-challenged person, I could not make out much of what you were saying. I am still strying to decipher it.
But, if I don't get that done when the NC comes around, can I come and watch with you, wherever you are at? I promise that I will not rub it in ???
Howie
Dude
Guess who is the embarrassing bully :-) and the most admirable powerhouse. . Read the chart if you don't know.
Anatta,
Where the hell did you get that graph from, another one of you Trees??? The negative Y axis should have been labeled "Envious". Go back and relabel that baby, please.
Prof. Howie
PS: What are you Trees doing all the way in the corner, by yourself there? No one wants to play with you???
Wild_1 wrote:The negative Y axis should..
It is called negative for some reasons.

"Its lonely at the top. But its comforting to look down upon everyone at the bottom. Larry Kersten
BTW
Did you manage to find the right TV package yet?
Myanmar, huh? Come on, give those people a break. They just suffered through 20+ years of pain. Just when they thought things were at last looking up!!! What did those nice people do to deserve this!
Après moi, le déluge - King of France, Louis XV of Can Tho, aka Wild_1
Anatta, you foolish man,
Aside from the link that you gave me, I found nothing. However, I came across this cool SEC guy, with a magic box that can pick up all the games, and he invited me to come and watch some of the games with him.
I don't know if I can make it all the way to Saigon, but I will definitely try to be there, when my team pummel you Trees shortly.
Lonely at the top, hey? The game is only a couple of weeks away, Amigo. It is going to be a total annihilation, my friend. There will be no Luck to save you now.
Maybe... We will give you some points for efforts. Destroying you will only mean no Tree for Christmas...
Alright Mr. I-Don't-Know-How-To-Label-My-Axis,
The game is on! This Sunday, barring sniper fire, we are going to teach you "admirable powerhouse" a thing or two about football. Wanna find a place to watch?
Would be glad to but not sure it is available here. I see that Fox broadcasts it in the US, so not sure whether Star TV shows it here.
Beside, it is 6AM local time on a Sunday morning, so I don't know any sports bar open at that time.
You'll be here this weekend? Call me if you have any good option.
Anatta wrote:I don't know any sports bar open at that time.

What??? I left Saigon to you and this is what you turned it into? Man, find out which is a place that has a good TV system and I will try to get it open for us. Do it fast though, I need time to develope my magic.
Wild_1 wrote:Alright Mr. I-Don't-Know-How-To-Label-My-Axis,

Man, it was fun. As you may know, the four of us: Wild1, Saigonmonkey, me and another EB member went to see the game today at the Boston Sports Bar.
It was certainly an unreal experience watching college football with Enrique Iglesias crooning loudly "Tonight (I'm F..king You)" over the speakers at 6AM in a bar with a crowd of 20+ people who had obviously pulled an overnighter in various bars (and a couple of strange ladies, but that's a different story).
Anyway, we were watching in total awe how Wild1's no-2-ranked bully displaying its prowess............in losing to my no 21 admirable powerhouse. Respect.
Man, victory was sweet, despite three missing field goals! (Note to myself: need to talk to the alumni office to sack that embarrassing kicker)
As we speak, the losing team is still in shock and doesn't know what hit them .
Asked whether it isn't a little nonsensical to play that way against the only team to beat you three (now a record four) seasons in a row? "I don't know what to say about that answered USC right guard. "I don't think there's an answer," said the linebacker. Asked if he felt he could have done anything differently, their Heisman hopeful quarterback couldn't come up with anything and said "They played better football than us" .
This week's barometer for those who care:
PS: I feel real bad for Howie having to wake up at 1AM, take the bus at 3AM from Can Tho all the way to the bar at 6AM to watch this humilation..... NOT really . Hope you are doing better next season, buddy,
. Anyway, all in all, nice game
.
Let the record show that even though his team suffered an embarrasing, deflating loss, Howie displayed his true class by picking up the entire tab for our little party.
You da man Howie!
"Funnymen,"
That was NOT a good day for me. First, it was the USC debacle. Then, as I was making my way back to Can Tho, the rain came and I got sick upon returning to the house. Man, man... Good thing I wasn't hit by "an ugly tree" hey?
Anyways, get your laughs in now, Anatta. While I plot and scheme... .
As for you Saigonmonkey, it was great to meet you and your wife. You guys should come to Can Tho sometimes. I can assure you it is nothing like what her friend had taken her to. Hey, as long as you leave that Anatta guy home. Better yet, check him into the zoo, then we are all good.
Jerry,
Thanks for leading us to that place, bro. It was pretty cool. They had a really good omelette and onion rings. Great beers, too. Don't eat the buffalo wings, though. They tasted like Vietnamese ga sao. Nonetheless, we had a great time. I will definitely go back there again. Hopefully, I will see you next time.
Take care,
Howie
