Edificios (Buildings) of Cuenca

Post new topic

Nards Barley

Hi peeps,

This thread will be used as a repository for photos of buildings in Cuenca, including their names(if any) AND location (such as major cross  streets).  This will serve as a handy reference for people. Feel free to make your own contributions, using your own camera.

Nards Barley

Man, am I tired.  I ventured out on foot with my trusty camera westward, in the direction of the non-Spanish speaking part of town called Gringolandia.

I actually began snapping photos a little east of Gringolandia where there is a pocket of Apartment Buildings.

I was walking west along Grand Columbia and veered up that hill on right. Approximately here in Google Maps.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-768sAMzbLJU/UB7AjkdVVBI/AAAAAAAAAJs/0oG3XKRrbOQ/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520089.JPG

What is the name of that street?Miguel Morocho.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-325mi4j-gts/UB7AnyfntpI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/CXQurOvstek/s800/Calle%2520Sign%25201.jpg

You probably won't find the street name Miguel Morocho with Google Maps, but if you have an Android phone or tablet, the app "Maps With Me" shows it.

Half way up that hill you will find this building. That is a photo of the backside of the building. There is a Remax real estate office in one of the offices at the bottom.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-K-kU72ICang/UB7CB88rcDI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/2BiWbEIJ-Aw/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520008.JPG

I looped around to the front of the building to catch its name: Edificio Dali

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bEOBhC9io3k/UB7CDOqEuwI/AAAAAAAAAKY/3Rid2XVHyCA/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520009.JPG

Another photo from a wider angle
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-MT3_fPdmBRQ/UB7DLIJCN1I/AAAAAAAAAKs/yty3317Kln4/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520010.JPG

And what is the name of the street it is on?
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Nsepq5pjV1s/UB7C6k2hlAI/AAAAAAAAAKk/WWYh8GNQnkg/s400/Calle%2520Sign%25202.jpg

My Android map program shows its full name to be Jose Astudillo Regalado.

That is it for today. I will continue to update.

Moving right along, I continued my walk along this street

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_6VQjkVJBec/UB8IaY2OQ_I/AAAAAAAAAMQ/mx_H3SxAg1g/s640/Calle%2520Sign%25206.jpg

This building was to be my next stop.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5L4dU0A_Zpo/UB8FEG-uJtI/AAAAAAAAAL0/yehoTmOUhFY/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520007%25202.jpg

The building is on this street, although technically its full name is Alfonso Andrae Chiriboga.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-l1JcJNcRkQk/UB8G3pRjlbI/AAAAAAAAAL8/OrUEMSlU6IQ/s800/Calle%2520Sign%25205.jpg

Standing on Alfonso Andrae Chiriboga, I took this picture of the building. The building on the right is new construction (Edificio Rocio).

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-T21KnySlYkQ/UB8EiE6kU7I/AAAAAAAAALg/uR5zBCaDSdQ/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520016.JPG

I didn't see a sign with the name of the building, so I asked the security guard that was in a small office. He told me the name of the builidng was Mirador Del Rio.

Nards Barley

Since I briefly introduced you to the building El Rocío in the last comment, I headed down the street a little ways and took this photo.

I have noticed various real estate companies advertising this building on their websites.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fL-WKVpSRtk/UCAH77hwqUI/AAAAAAAAAMs/oMeRnfrTu34/s800/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520021%25202.jpg

Nards Barley

Just to the right of the Edificio El Rocío and behind the medical dispensary I shot this photo in order to show you where these apartments are in relation to the coliseum Coliseo Jefferson Pérez Quezada. The road below is Gran Colombia.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AbVa3RySZrw/UCBZolbMxsI/AAAAAAAAANo/aNGfT2pSmMY/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520028.JPG
Just across the street from the edificio El Rocío is this building.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Buvj0yFDbfk/UCBYIJdh52I/AAAAAAAAAM8/QiM5nGEhTBE/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520023.JPG

Looks like it may be one building, but it is two building with separate entrances and security guards. By the way, there is a For Rent or For Sale in one of the upper left windows. I can't make out the phone number however.

The names of the building are

Alameda I
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OpxnZRa2bpw/UCBY2YfX8MI/AAAAAAAAANQ/DoTkzsZyL1E/s400/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520026%25202.jpg

and

Alameda II

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-xh0rndzVONg/UCBY2qEFBzI/AAAAAAAAANU/8eYfcc7BmIo/s800/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520027%25202.jpg

Nards Barley

I previously introduced you to a in this comment to a building whose name I did not no at first because I did not see a sign for it. Instead I had to ask the security guard. Well lo and behold, I was on the wrong side of the building. Take a peek at this photo peeps which I took today from the intersection of Eduardo Crespo Malo, Avenida Unidad Nacional, and Gran Columbia.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YXzm0jx5Esc/UCGK-Y9wkUI/AAAAAAAAAOY/ufuPJ9FxHoc/s800/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520026%25202.jpg

The question this photo raises for me, however, is whether you can access the residential tower of the building from this lower commercial side. I will have to resolve that some other time.

I was shocked when I read this post. You show a series of pics that we actaully entered a contract for an apartment in, The Rocio. Some of the pics you show, I actaully took also! The deal un fortunatly fell through. The apartment we were looking at was on the backside, facing the stadium. If you look at the building from the back, there are 2 apartments with terraces. Ours was the one to the right, right above curves in that little strip mall. You'll see a vacant billboard on top of that building, the place we were negotiating was right straight up.
Un real to see your pics, they almost mirror ours!
Stay Well, and keep em' coming!

About Mirador del Rio, the entrance is in the upper street in Jose Astudillo.

I had a move to do in that building few months ago and I was confused too but finally, asking, I get the main entrance.
In your post of 2012-08-06, in the last photo, you can see the entrance.

My virtual real estate tour will be offline for a few days. My internet service terminated with ETAPA and I am trying to get TVcable out here to install. Main reason I didn´t continue with ETAPA is because I was told I would have to get something notarized and it is a real pain in the ass to switch over from a different tenant.

Same street, next to Alameda I is the building housing Cuadra I and Cuadra II. Once again, it looks like one building but there are two separate entrances.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-WulboFt3YEk/UCUqbVOlL3I/AAAAAAAAAPs/FKkZjxmka5c/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520030.JPG

The requisite photos of the building signs. Sorry for poor image quality.

Here is an alternative view.

Here is a photo of the street corner. The architectural detail helped me identify the location of the apartment that is for sale in this listing at CuencaRealestate.com. The real estate listings on the web understandably never tell you the exact location of the properties, but they sometimes provide you a small photo of a portion of the exterior which can be useful in determining which building it is in.

The street in the background is Mariscal Lamar which you can walk east back to El Centro or west to Avenida de Las Americas.

I am going to try and pick up the pace and give less narrative.

Building name: Los Sauces

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-vtywuXPrq-Q/UCv5is6gpCI/AAAAAAAAAUw/sStjCr6vyJk/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520023.JPG

Location: 22-369 Grand Columbia, near Avenida Unidad Nacional.

Nards Barley

Still on Grand Columbia,

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SC9nOo6WqO0/UC56tTHbMrI/AAAAAAAAAVo/3r7ITKVPelw/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520032.JPG

Building name: Excalibur

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DR8vebjidno/UC56r4YzRiI/AAAAAAAAAVg/Jfw-briGOCg/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520033.JPG

Home to the world famous cafe: Moca

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-M0i8odi1RP0/UC564DZkPTI/AAAAAAAAAVw/gZJW1Im3QZk/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520034.JPG

Location: Grand Columbia. Closest cross street is Los Manzaneros.

Nards Barley

I passed over Avenida de Las Americas and Gran Colombia becomes Ordonez Lasso.

I turned left on "Los Pinos" and approached these three apartment buildings.

Los Pinos
Edificio Amazonas
Edificio Terrassa

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--UY7BARvSxg/UC5_vyXprYI/AAAAAAAAAWg/3BxGg78b8Os/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520042.JPG

Nards Barley

Here is the Los Pinos up close:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-YxRqEQTYD-o/UC6D-NUOP_I/AAAAAAAAAXc/01MgTMvifn8/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520044.JPG

And a close-up on the name of building:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-SvC5Fg1MPYk/UC6D10lM8wI/AAAAAAAAAXM/OMeEz2mptNg/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520043.JPG

Major cross streets: Ordoñez Lasso and Los Pinos.

Nards Barley

Just down the street on Los Pinos is Edificio Amazonas

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DnISNvrN6ZA/UB56vxnDvfI/AAAAAAAAAG0/zYuOSRC7zYY/s640/edificios%2520008.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-w0psbdMJpfc/UC6D6z9EWvI/AAAAAAAAAXU/nFKGPniE7dI/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520045.JPG

Here is a link to a listing on a real estate website--in English no less.

According to the listing, looks like it has a pretty cool rooftop balcony.

http://www.uz-inmobiliaria.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/DSCN1100.jpg

Nards Barley

And further on down the street on Los Pinos is the Edificio Terrassa. This building doesn't appear to have a sign with its name on it, but I was able to learn its name from other sources.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-OM8OUawonPg/UC6EOQyatLI/AAAAAAAAAXs/Eae0pGuCWFs/s640/edificios%2520de%2520cuenca%2520047.JPG

This building is much bigger than it appears at first glance.  The following photo borrowed from the forum on Skyscrapercity.com shows the depth of it. The photo was probably taken from an upper floor of the Los Pinos building.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/5282/dscn7887.jpg

Then, I walked past the building and turned right onto 3rd de Noviembre and took this photo. So as the photo shows it has a 90 degree bend to it that extends to the 3rd de Noviembre.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-mzVFI60lFEQ/UDgL6IAkooI/AAAAAAAAAes/3UoQH1CE6iA/s640/today%2520in%2520cuenca%2520011.JPG

As I walked along 3rd de Noviembre I snapped this photo which is the butt end (for a lack of a better word) of that 90 degree bend.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-rRJQZtuP-HA/UDgMLc-n4OI/AAAAAAAAAfA/H459pKUT7bI/s640/today%2520in%2520cuenca%2520014.JPG

And finally, I turned right onto Los Cipreses which runs parallel to Los Pinos and snapped this photo.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-z2GXAIzqI2w/UDgMaGwQtSI/AAAAAAAAAfI/0rl3W2Pld5U/s640/today%2520in%2520cuenca%2520015.JPG
