Dear All,
Do I understand correctly that gas is supplied in gas cylinders, not through the pipe? Is it like this everywhere in Cairo? What about hot water - is it delivered centrally or heated by gas or by electricity? Are there any flats with electric cooking stoves?
Thanks a lot

Concerning gas: I think that a lot of Cairo has pipes, but not everywhere.
Hot water: either a water heater by electricity or gas (both are available in the market)
electric cooker: also available in the market, but if you rent a furnished flat, it will be most of the times a gas cooker.

sry for late reply (didn't see the topic before)
yea that's true

btw gas services are so cold and it may takes 6 weeks or sometimes 6 months or even more than 1 year to come to you

all the building except 2 flats ( mine included ) didn't have a gas pipe and we applied from 1 year and they come to examine and check the flats from 3 months and sill they didn't come back even they promised to come the next week after there first time!
and we are living in Nasr City near to Abbas Al aqqad! not in a desert!

one more funny thing is we applied for electricity in another flat that we own and they said something is wrong bla bla bla and we weto to the court in 2006 to raise that issue

and after 6 years (specially after the revolution they came and connect the electricity for us) :)

you have to listen for the truck that comes around and the guys make the metal banging sound on a cylinder LOL. you can hear it very clear. all the flats i was in had cylinder gas not pipes.usually just tell the doorman u need cooking gas.

oh i see layla1313 is adapted to Egypt and the Egyptian culture :)
two more tip
if the doorman isn't there
we shouting "anabeeb" ( gas cylinder ) and waving to him from the window and he will come automatically if he heard us

buy like 2 or 3 of the cylinder gas the first time
and exchange the empty one with a new one each time a motorcycle or a truck comes

just replaced my empty gas cylinder for 20 L.E ( don't pay more than that)

if you buy a new one i think it will cost you like 250 L.E
(don't pay more than 260 L.E for it)
