Hello everyone,

My name is Amanda and I just moved to Beijing to teach English. I am 23 and come from Texas. I like to do many things; explore, hike, read, write, watch movies...etc. I am here looking to make some friends to learn Chinese from or explore this city and any others I can make it to. Send me a message if you want to hang out. :D

Thanks docachang. I'm having a blast so far. It's already been two weeks since I got here...still not quite sure where all that time went.

Hi Larry,

You know, I took the high speed train from Beijing to Nanjing to visit my relatives over the National Day golden week. It was a really good experience. It took 4 hours on the train, plus another hour to get from my apt to Beijing South Station and from Nanjing's high-speed train station to my uncle's apt. So all in, 5 hours. The ride was very smooth, the seats comfortable, and internet connection for most of the ride. Total cost, ~500RMB one way.

If I flew, it'd be 1.5 hours on the plane itself (assuming no delays, which in China is a bit fanciful). Plus an hour to get to the airport in Beijing, an hour to check in and wait at the airport, and an hour from the airport in Nanjing. So all in, 4-5 hours as well, plus a lot of uncertainty! The surroundings are nicer, but seats are smaller. No internet, but at 1.5hrs its easier to keep oneself occupied. Total cost, ~700-800RMB.

So I personally love the train (and I work in aviation), and would definitely take it again!

Btw, where in Canada are you from? I grew up in Toronto.

Cheers,
Carl

Starts at 7:30pm but not  aproblem if you arrive earlier or later

JonnieWoo

oh no... i arrive on the 18th ( next Thursday), I assume there will be another one n the 23rd? Or earlier?

Manlin

yes, every Tuesday.

Tuesday 23 October will be in the Xian Bar. This is the bar of the brand new 5 Star Hotel (East Hotel) in the Lido area (in Indigo Mall)

Tuesday 30 October will be a Haloween#s special. It will be themed Pi meets Ano.

A well played piano sounds beautiful but to produce such a beautiful sound it needs both black and white keys. Come and join us for a black (pi) and white (ano) evening. You decide whether you are black or white. We provide each person with a choice of either a black or white mask – you choose which suits you best.

This evening is a chance to let their hair down and have some fun with people they know and trust. Suzie Wong have promised us special drink prices that are pocket friendly and a special atmosphere conducive for this event.
