iTunes prepaid cards?

I have an iPad 2 which like all iPads you could say comes jailbroken as it can use a local SIM card or wifi.  My problem is that if I want to download an app through iTunes Store on my desktop I am stuck.  I was using my Apple account OK until I made the mistake of trying to change credit card.  Then it balked.  I have contacted Apple support and they say I have to download apps from the Vietnam store instead of the US store.  Problem is that to make an account there you have to have a VN credit card which I don't have.  The Apple guy said I can overcome this by inputting a number from a prepaid iTunes card.  I know you can buy these in any supermarket in the US.  My question is can I buy them in HCMC?  Thanks if you can tell me.

You are in luck.  I just happen to have a $15 iTunes gift card.  If you want it, drop me a line.  BTW, I will be in HCMC tomorrow as well.  So, let me know.

Alternatively, use a VPN to connect to a proxy server based in the US and download from there.

It's too late to tell you this now, but when you enter your credit card info, be sure to click all boxes that say United States. NEVER show your location as Vietnam. At that point, it may still balk (did for me), but I contacted Apple support, gave them my USA contact address, and told them "I don't know why, but I can't update my credit card info." Of course, they fixed it right away. (The real reason is their system detected I was at a Vietnam IP address, but the person at support does not know that if you don't tell them.) If you're American and starting a new iTunes account, need to wait until the next time you're in the states. Otherwise, if here, you'll be assumed to be Vietnamese and will only be allowed a Vietnam iTunes account. If you won't be going to the states (or any other western country) for a while, better to use Laidback's idea of a VPN to register and download. Bottom line - when contacting any technical support for companies like this, avoid telling them where you're really located at all costs. It also helps to have a VOIP account like Skype or Vonage with a number from your home country to make the contacts.

Saigon Monkey is correct.  As long as I kept using the card that I had inputted from a US based ISP it was OK.  Apparently the system only checks on the ISP if you change or input card info. My computer is a desktop so I will not be taking it even if I visit the US so I guess I am stuck with the iTunes option.  If you do set an account up from a US ISP probably best to choose the card with the expiration date the farthest out.

Apple has a way of making things difficult. It's no wonder Android is statistically more popular in Asia. For most Vietnamese I think Apple is just another logo obsession.

Wild_1: thanks for the offer but I was looking for an ongoing basis.  I really don't download music, just an occasional 99 cent app, so a $5.00 (100,000 VND)card would probably be enough.  I was told since I posted that you can buy cards at Mobifone.  That is to say the actual company store, not one of the little franchises that sell phones and cards.  I will be checking that option out soon.

buy it online. search for itunes gift cards usa .com on google. you should find a site that can sell you a US card with access to the american store with online code delivery
