Clarification required :)

Hi all
My greetings to all the members. I am settled in India. Myself and my husband have planned to move to Singapore. A few friends there told us that the employment is now restricted to Singaporeans and to those who have a PR. It would be of great help if anyone could clarify whether the above is correct and whether we can start our job search there now. I am a qualified chartered accountant with close to two years of experience and my husband is in IT profession with about 10 years of experience.

Regards

Hello Joshereen.

Welcome to Expat.com! :)

In meantime, you can read the various articles in the Singapore participative guide. It could help.

Thank you,
Aurélie

Your friends are only partially right.
It is of course still possible for a foreigner to move and work in Singapore, but the conditions for getting such a visa are getting much stricter, in order to reduce the number of foreigners.
Ethnic Indians are especially hard hit, because their numbers swelled too much over the last 10 years and there were many visa abusers.
Many companies, shunning the additional hazzle and uncertainty in employing a foreigner, are hiring only citizens and PRs now.

Also: Job search from abroad is very, very difficult in Singapore. If your plans are serious, you should come here for as long as you get a visa (three to six months minimum) to start your job search.

Hi beppi
Thanks a lot for your reply. We are serious about moving to singapore...but coming there and trying for a job might be little risky but if that is the only solution i think we would be trying it :)

No risk, no gain.
And especially in Singapore:
No physical presence, no job offer!
(Unless you know people and are well-connected ...)

Good luck!
