Helmets : where are the big retailers?

I'm looking for a new helmet ("demi-jet" style).
I want high quality, not a helmet with light plastic, cheap polystyrene and a very thin layer of foam, like 95% helmets you can find here.

The only reliable helmets I've found are a few models at ANDES shop  (which seems to be copies of ZEUS's models) near the Reunification Palace, and also a few good helmets at HJC's shop, far far away on Hong Bang Street.

Unfortunatelly, they don't match very well with my head. So I'm looking for a big big shop, which could have more models, and beter average quality. With so many motorbykes in Saigon, and so many heads to protect, I would be surprised if this kind of shop doesn't exist.

Just in case someone knows, there's a model I like because the quality is excellent and it perfectly matches with my head (a friend of mine let me try his one) : the ZEUS ZS-210C. He bought it in the ZEUS shop in Phạm Hồng Thái Street, but I checked, they don't have it anymore (and they don't even know about it...). And that shop doesn't seem to be an official ZEUS retailer, it's small and dusty, the helmets are dirty and sometimes damaged, like second-hand products. ANDES sells a similar model, with a similar price (1.400.000đ) but that one doesn't fit, too tight on my forehead (weird). If anyone knows an other place where I can buy the ZEUS version, I'd appreciate.

There are 'specialist' motorcycle dealers around town where they have better quality products. There have been listed in the forum in a discussion concerning motorcycle jackets.

The SaiGon Scooter outfit has a range of rider accessories (check out their rain-capes). They have a web site. < www.saigonscootercentre.com >

Repost under this if you want forum pages.

Andes Helmets
112 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai
Quan 3, TP HCM
www.andes.com.vn

That's one of the few places I've found. The one on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai has more products than the one on Nguyen Dinh Chieu. I've not been to the one on 444 Hoang Van Thu (I'll go, just in case). I don't know how they work, they don't have stock (they prentend?), they only have 1 item for each product they sell : the one used for demonstration, that you buy after everybody tried and sweated inside (for some helmets, they propose to change the foam for a new one).

Actually the real problem is they only sell ANDES products, which are from LongHui Vietnam (probably the same Taiwanese producers who makes the Zeus helmets, but those sold by ANDES seems to be slightly lower quality. And the choice of colors & deco is very very limited (only 4), if you compare with the Taiwanese producer's official website : http://zeus-en.ponet.com.tw/ponet/front … ory=111337

I'll go to the italian shop you told me in your first answer, asap.

Just behind New World hotel On Pham Hong Thai street the shop has helmets out front and sports gear inside. I brought a Zeus helmet that is very much like the one I have in Australia. I have a very big melon, so they have some big sizes there.

I got it, Name of the shop is BOM Shop, located on 2 Thao Dien street, district 2, HMC

Come on! The question was "Big retailers". Saigon Scooter centre has a maximum of 2 or 3 helmets and they are 30% above the average market price for all accessories and scooters.

Honestly a place to avoid!

This shop is now closed

FYI last week very long discussion on FB "Expats in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)" group. Join the group, then search for "Looking for quality helmets in HCMC must be Australia/Europe/USA standards."

Going back to the OP, there really is nothing weird about the fact that even larger helmets in Vietnam are tight on his forehead.  If you imagine that you are looking down from above at two skulls, one Asian and one European, the Asian skull will be rounder and the European skull will be more oval.  Manufacturers of course make helmets to fit the people in their own market.  I have had helmets that were tight in front that I could stick two fingers in the side of.  That oval helmet is out there but you will need to search.

Edit:  Bell Helmets, a US brand, has a store at 2 Phổ Quang, Tân Bình.  Tel:  +84 93 834 55 27.  They have a Facebook page but it may be new as it does not have much in the way of photos or comments.
