Hi, it's quite easy to get a multi-entry tourist visa to visit Brazil. I say multi-entry so that if you want to visit other South American countries and return to Brazil, then you are safe. On a tourist visit you cannot stay more than 180 days a year, but this can be extended when it's closer to the 5 month mark.  You cannot work at all on a tourist visa, and it's not so easy to get a work visa without a job here in advance I think.
