I am fed up with being royally stiffed by Santander every time I use my card online or in Malta.  Their fees are unbelievable.  It is a UK based account.

Can anybody recommend a bank that will not charge me huge overseas transaction fees please.

Many thanks.x

if you don't have an address in the UK, its very difficult to open an onshore bank account in the UK, and AFAIK, none of the offshore ones offer zero fees for foreign currency. However, Santander offshore only charge around 2% for euro transactions

"Can anybody recommend a bank that will not charge me huge overseas transaction fees please" - do you mean a £ account with a UK based bank, with transactions in say euros ?

lucyanya

UK bank account, UK address, transactions in euros or dollars depending if personal usage or internet usage.

thanks

Santander charge for everything.

1.25% to withdraw cash.
2% for purchase.

Over the course of a month it takes a huge chunk out of your overall balance.

Being a bank, I begrudge them the money.

thats not bad at all - do they load the exchange rate as well though ?

lucyanya

yes they do.

I can lose between 30 - 100 euro per month so I think it is bad and I am not happy about it

There are banks or building societies that do not load charge you for having an account with them and I would be interested to hear from anybody that has dealt with any of them.

georgeingozo

Santander offshore and Natwest offshore charge about 2% in total

onshore

Halifax Clarity - zero charges

Halifax are very good, but you need a UK residential address

How's about a prepaid Euro card? No fees there.
