Your best expat destination

Expats are, by definition, people living outside of their own country. There are, of course, many different reasons for this. Here are some I can think of:
- For work migrants: There should be enough and reasonably paid jobs (e.g. Singapore or Dubai for those from India/Philippines/Indonesia)
- For refugees: The place should be safer and more peaceful than home (e.g. Iran for those from Afghanistan)
- For love migrants: Wherever the new family is
- For those moving for the experience: Any exotic and exciting place
- For retirees: A place with reasonable prices and good living standards (e.g. Bahamas, Southern Spain or Thai islands)
- For those who had enough of their own country: Any place that is different
Of course this isn't an exhaustive list, as there are probably as many reasons for expatriation as there are migrants.

Of course, each one might have a single and personal reason for making the choice of living abroad. Hence the idea of collecting your testimonies and opinions about the choice you made .

What about you, what were your specific reasons for living abroad?
Among the countries you lived in, which one did you enjoyed the most?

In my specific case, it was adventurism at first, later work and then family. But I am in the lucky and rare situation that I was mostly able to  arrange my life as I wanted, and not as life's necessities demanded.
I enjoyed most living in Indonesia, Taiwan and of course Singapore, my second home since 1996.

Hong Kong can't possibly be the best expat destination, but it's the only one I have any firsthand knowledge about.  I think somewhere with better weather would be better.
