Photojournalist coming to Luanda needs help/advice

Post new topic

Hi. I am a photojournalist coming to Luanda next week. I'm doing a story about the challenges Angola faces and how despite massive oil wealth many of the countries citizens still live in poverty. I don't speak a word of Portuguese and could do with some assistance translating. I can pay a small day rate - maybe someone has an Angolan friend who speaks a little english. Also I need somewhere cheap to stay - the budgets in my industry have collapsed and hotels in Luanda seem very expensive. Perhaps someone has a spare room I can hire for a week or you may know a secure but inexpensive hotel. I also want to contrast the extreme wealth with poverty so suggestions of the most exclusive new years eve parties would be good. any ideas? thanks, Robin

I'd strongly recommend you delay your trip until February as Angola is hosting the African  Cup of Nations football championship in January and all hotels are already full. There's a new guide book out on Angola - published by Bradt - check it out
