Hello,

I am currently saving to leave the US in about three years.
I have my sights set on Iceland, however, I need clearer information about moving there, living there permanently, buying land there, and building a home there as an American.

I plan on contacting a local Iceland consulate this week, but any information you may have now would be helpful :]

Thanks,

have you checked the Icelandic immigration site? Based on my experience of other country's immigration websites, I think it's pretty straightforward:

http://utl.is/

As an American, you will need a visa, and those fall into 3 categories: Work, Study, Family reunification. There is no visa category for investors, and the permanent residence permit requires being on one of the other permit types for several years before you are eligible (and you must have proof of your Icelandic knowledge).
