hi there, i have just been offered a position in KSA and would like some advice on whether the package is ideal.  i have been offered 24000 SRA per month, plus accomodation and utilities, medical etc.  I will be moving with my partner and we currently dont have kids but hope to in the near future. is this a good offer?  how likely is my partner to get a general customer service or admin role etc and what is the average salary for such jobs?

We currently live in the UK and apart from the adventure of experiencing another culture, would ldeally like to use this opportunity to clear our debt and same up some money etc

PS:  are there any churches in KSA?

Alliecat

First off, if your 'partner' is male and you're not married, you won't be allowed to live together (in fact, people can't come here unless they are 'sponsored').

Second, only ISLAM is allowed here.  So obviously no churches.

There's many blogs you can read for the basics.

Good luck!

jedi

Oh! we are married, newly weds! so still used to referring to us as partners. :)

Alliecat

Whew!  Then that's not a problem :)

This is actually a good place to be married, a difficult place to be single.

Anyway, the way I've got it figured is like this:

1.  If you need a lot of excitement and external stimulation, DO NOT COME TO KSA.

2.  If you are very religious (and not Muslim), DO NOT COME TO KSA.

3.  If you can't live without that after-dinner glass of wine (or beer), DON'T COME TO KSA.

4. If you love pork products, DO NOT COME TO KSA.

That about sums it up lol

Anybody want to add to my 'Do Not Come' list??

Instead of going to Himalaya, also here; you can discover your own soul and heel yourself in the loneliness. Then after you can write your own bestseller as "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari"..

But again it would be nice for newly married couples for developing good relation.. in their own world..

Big experience, at least you will discover "How Green Your Valley was.. " :)

Alliecat

You know, Aticus, I was thinking that, too.

For a newly married couple, this is absolutely the place to spend time together (since there's not too much else to do haha).  There won't be distractions pulling you away from each other like at home.

And as far as appreciating what you had at home? Ditto.

I myself have many reasons for having come here to KSA, and one of them is that I think when I return home to the States I'll appreciate my country more (I kinda lost faith during the Bush era).

If your primary need is to save up some cash for your future then DO COME to KSA and live and work here.

Since you afe newly married and will not necessaril;y be looking for that true outdoor, tipping, bar hopping, dancing and disco life, this place is better than anytwhere else.

As long as you have a legal marriage license you wont have any problems in bringing ytour spouse along with you as a dependent.

24K SR is a reasonable salary for two to be able to live well since accomodatuion and utilities are also provided.

Your spouse can easily find a suitable job as loing as his skills and expertise are needed here.

Good Luck!

I have a question: if I am Christian will I be killed in Saudi Arabia(I'm a male). And also : a woman I know is planning to move there, if she doesn't wear the appropriate muslim dresses, will she get killed too ? Thanks for the awnser in advance.

jedi

Musicman, thanks for your advice, i have also followed Alliecat's advice and had a look at other websites to try and get an idea of what our monthly living expenses could potentially come to and with only food, travel and perhaps cable to worry about, it looks like we may be able to save at least half our monthly income which isnt bad.

As for the social aspect of things, well we barely get time for that here in the UK apart from the occassional evening out to the movies (I know, what a boring life) so we wouldnt feel totally out of place on the entertainment side of things.  We will miss our friends and family though..

thanks again!

Heyyy Musicman, How long does it take to reach that "some cash" ?

I have already learned that it is never ending story.. it will never end.. Mankind always find some way to upgrade it..

Isn't it!

EXCACTLY, thats why I have been stuck here for the past 30 years. I originally signed up for oinly TWO in 1979...

No, Christians aren't killed here.

Your woman friend has no choice.  She must wear an abaya when out in public, though covering her head is her choice. Being a foreigner, she is not required to wear a headscarf or veil.  There are no such dress requirements behind the closed gates of a compound.

Skype is a great way to keep in touch with those back home.

Most compounds have "libraries" of books, movies to borrow or rent, some kinds of activities for residents (at times), a restaurant on site, etc.

Many compounds also offer "services" for Christians, though generally offered on Saudi weekends, like Friday.
