Northern Ireland Expats wanting to return to Republic of Ireland to Li

We are currently living in Australia where we have lived for 42 years and are in the process of preparing to retire to Ireland and are property hunting in the Dundalk area.  A person we know has warned us off living in the area I quote "VERY republican. A NI accent, an English accent and a Scottish surname - could be problematic. VERY problematic."  We still have a Northern Irish accent and a Scottish surname but we have difficultly in believing this would be a problem.  Is this naive? Does anyone have any comments on this?
