New Opportunity in Muscat and Communication Issue in Muscat.

Post new topic

Hi People,

Firstly I have gone through few of the threads & let me Congratulate each one of you for your wonderful work. After going through the threads i couldn't resist myself by posting a new topic.

I am a part qualified accountant & i have been offered a job at muscat with a salary of 500 OMR. I have been told that food will cost 25 OMR & rest is what i can save which comes to 475 OMR.

I want to know what would be the source of communication with my friends & family.
Usage of Gmail,Facebook,Yahoo is banned in muscat ??

I have been told that my Next step would be medical. So please guide me on medical also as in how much it would cost & what all points i should consider.

Also it would be great if you can guide me on the offer i have.

srinirajan

Are you a CA/ICWA ? Then the base salary should have been 1000 RO. On cost of food/grocery - the cost, compared to India, will be 3 times for staple / basic diet in Oman. If your current cost of food/grocery in India is just Rs 1100 per month, then within 25 RO you can manage in Oman.

Thanks for the reply srinirajan.

I am yet to qualify CA. I have one more group to clear to qualify this examination.

Company offers Food at that cost. May be they would be having mess facility.

As a fresher & partly qualified CA is this offer not viable ?

srinirajan

if you are not a CA yet, and that company offers you accommodation and subsidized food- then this is a okay offer to begin with (given that you may be in your mid-20s and single).
In Oman there is no personal income tax and medical insurance and to and fro airfare from home to muscat is mandatory by law.

Realistic

Yes Srinirajan.
I am 22 & Single.
Do you have any idea about networking sites like Gmail, yahoo, facebook usage in muscat ?
are these sites banned in middle east ?

As a fresher and to start a career in Gulf, i'll suggest you may consider this opportunity. If your company is providing you the accomodation, its great, however if not, then you can live here in a sharing accomodation (Which will cost you an approximate of 100 OMR/month). End of the day, its all how u spend your money. Since you're young enough, savings wouldn't be a problem for you.
