Hello,

I've been having an acute cough that probably turned into an allergy for the past 1.5 months, because now I can't stand any strong smells, perfumes, chemicals...etc. I tried going to the hospital where my insurance says I should go, at Fehervari street, they give appointments in 2 weeks, and when I went to the emergency koz I couldn't almost breath the Dr there couldn't speak English and was very rude and had an attitude problem, she diagnosed me with a sore throat, where I had no problem with my throat and when I tried to explain it wasn't the case, she was like "so u're the doctor now"!! And they wanted me to pay 100$ for this none-sense koz my insurance was still in process.

So to cut the story short I'm looking for an English speaking doctor, who could diagnose my problem as it's getting worse with time and weather conditions. Any help would really be appreciated. Thnx :)

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience :-(

I can't recommend a doctor, but I can recommend a short visit to a cave:
The air is crystal clear, and is often prescribed for people with symptoms like yours (asthma, COPD)

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience. If you can afford, go to a private doctor. It's worth paying the money for your health.

You know how is here...it's the Hungarian way or no way. You cannot say a word to anybody. It happened to me the same, when I was at the dentist.

Ingie

Thanks szocske for your recommendation but I'm claustrophobic so I don't know about that :)

I have been going to Roszakert Medical, they are great! I can call them and see a doctor the same day, quite expensive 30000 forints for a 40 min visit but really good care!

If you need a doctor during the weekend or the evening, call dr Akos Santa healthguardhungary.com he is great and cares about you ! A bit expensive as well, but it is always worth it when you get help instead of spending hours try to find someone who speaks english in the public health care :)

Ingie

Thank you guys for your response, I visited a private clinic and they were beyond perfect. They responded within two days giving an appointment the next day. The doctor was very professional and nice. It wasn't cheap but it was worth it.

Thnx FridaH, this is the one I've been to, they are great.

My girlfriend is hungarian and she had the same problems with doctors. Basically they diagnose you with something really fishy and just prescribe antibiotics all the time... If you say something against it well as Ingie said. I just go there to get my sick leave papers if i need them and then throw the antiobiotics prescription away. I gave up starting a discussion with doctors here. Its hard to find a good one. I had a good one in VII. disctrict though. Even german speaking :)

Can any hungarian explain me which doctors i can choose freely and which ones not ? If i ask 3 hungarians i get 3 different answers... well again as usual XD

It seems general doctor is "fixed" based on your registered address but for example some specialists you can just go there ...

Hungarians are big on forming their own, unique, different opinions (2 Hungarians 3 opinions).

It's in the 1st district, kind of expensive, but they speak english, and from the website it looks pretty modern.

I myself have to go to half-english-speaking clinics through my crappy insurance. I HATE going to the doctor here, they aren't very thorough and seem to just guess and give you some vitamins, an anti-biotic if you're lucky.

TornadoHH

Maybe its a cultural difference but in germany the doc will just give you an anti-biotic if you are like half dying and even ask you before if you want it or not (and you can talk with them and they consider your opinion because its your body... of course they also dont like if you are acting like you are the doc) If you think of it it means your body cant cope with the illness which under normal circumstances should be/will be cured by your own immune system so i rather take vitamins and do sports to strengthen the immune system.

and most of the time its just not neccesarry because antibiotics wont do anything against a virus and i dont like to take it when the doc is just guessing what could be wrong. Its really like a last resort option.
