And here's another BIG WINNER:  The best quote for the day:::

"Maybe Europe would have been a better place if my sort had let the Afghans and the Iraqis win."

YESSSSSSSSSS .... ABSOLUTELY !!!!

Or even Europe could have been a much better place if the BULGARIANS had not stopped the 200 000 strong ARABS in 718  and now all Europe would be eating Algerian and Syrian food ? !  :D:D:D

You didn't know about that, eh ?!

Don't worry, soon the Chineese will take good care of YOUR SORT and everyone will happily eat delicious, spicy and tasty Chineese meals forever .....

Thank you for the insight and your observations kristiann , excuse the pun, but you have certainly given me food for thought.
My girlfriend testifies that the food was excellent during the communist time and the people were safer.
As you say there is enough stuff being imported and Bulgaria has the resources and the skills to produce more herself.
Maybe it's due to corruption that this is not happening?

kristiann

Actually I do not worship the communist time, not a t all. It had much more negative sides than positive ones. But food quality was good, though not with a great variety and definately with very limited import. And there was a strict control.

Anyway, the present situation is due to lots of reasons and not only corruption. The main one is the destruction of the industrial Bulgaria and also the agriculture in the country.

Almost everything created during the previous 50 yeas, instead of being upgraded was totally destroyed. And stolen.

Now many different small producers are trying to enter the market and find a place for their products, but it is much harder when the industrial and scientific base are destroyed, and when 1/4 of the population is gone.

Funny to remember, how during communist time almost everybody had their own business apart form the compulsory state job. For example, my grandparents both from my father's side and from my mother's side both had businesses.
My mother's parents had a flower business, they grew probably 10 different types of flowers and sold about 50 - 60 000 pieces every year. Now all this is imported from Netherlands ....

They already managed to kill other sections of the forum

Let's see how fast they can succede at poison the well here too.

Then they will finally moderate their so awaited empty gulag and listen to the echoes of their own voice.

I won't comment on Kristian as he clearly has no experience as expat and still we have to decide what actually brings him here.

Ps. @ Kristian. If the world followed Bulgarian economy dictates the population of the earth would need to escape to other planets...So please stop your ridiculous claims. We are very tollerant, even to crazy people and nasty ones opinions, but I believe nobody comes here to have them forced down the throat.

They deleted some posts on other Forum Topics, because they were all OFF-TOPIC, having a rant and derailing the original question or topic.

@EVTRA

your comments on Bulgaria are neither tolerant, nor in good will and always away from  polite, especially when Bulgaria and Bulgarians are concerned. That is for sure and can be tracked quite easily to all other sections and topics of the Bulgaria forum.
Also that is the reason for my extremely rare inputs to topics, where I do not try to help an expat with information, experience or advice.

In the same line of thoughts definitely it is not you, who has to decide what I do in this forum. On the other hand it is more than sure that you have to decide for yourself what you do in Bulgaria, if everything here is so black, so negative, so repulsing and so unacceptable for you.

And ... not sure about escaping to Mars, though Musk and the USA do attempts in that direction, but pretty sure some people have escaped to Bulgaria. That is in some relation with Bulgarian economy, I believe. But you should know better than me.

Also I strongly believe the word tolerance sounds very distorted when used by you ....

or probably EVTRA could just try to act normally and avoid any insulting, arrogant and impolite behaviour here ?  especially when addressing Bulgaria and Bulgarians (though I wouldn't tolerate it against other nations too)

on the other hands, UK is just trying to figure how to get of this situation - when many foreigners left the country, and it is fun now ......

but I guess he very well knows why he is not in Italy, probably several years already, as well as why he's trying to divert the topic form positive to negative

I personally would love to see many Bulgarians returning to their homeland, but this is their choice.

"use our time policing the thousands of Bulgarians living there and send them back " - is this guy an European ? Has he ever heard of the rights of free movement ??

By the way, just to remind that the topic was about Bulgarian food. I've tried to help many and provide a significant input, by selecting and presenting more than 100 Bulgarian meals, starters, drinks and deserts. And really believe these are the basics of the local cuisine and worth trying by any foreigner, who is willing to form an opinion on this.
On the other hand, there's a person who has named only liutenitza, paprika and cheese and tries to insult, to accuse and to demand sth. from an entire nation ?

he's on the wrong place I think... but we will not start "policing him and sending him back"
