hi, my name is kevin, i'm a 30 year old male from belfast, i have out grown belfast and am concidering a new life in  sweden. i have been to sweden a few times and love the relaxed lifestyle and friendliness of the people.  the time has come for a move, as belfast at present is a dire place to live both politically and for work.  i am hoping that through your web site i would be able to find help from ex pats on how to find work and a place to live. at present i'm out of work. i have experience in the decorating and gardening industries, and really need as much help and guidance as i can to make the move. i am willing to work and live anywhere in sweden.

                                      slan, kevin.

Hello poul.

Welcome to Expat.com :)

In which sector are you looking for a job?

You may in the meantime browse the other threads on the Sweden Forum for more visibility.

Thanks.

Moving to Sweden is not that easy and its a long proess. i wouldnt advise against it however here are a few things that may help.

1: Get your personal number ASAP you NEED this for everything so apply. You also need to go to the immigration centre to sign in and say you are living in Sweden. They issue you with a card. You need this to get a personal number however apply for both and the tax office will eventually ask you for this card.

2: Before you leave make sure you learn Swedish. I know everyone here speaks English but the chances of getting a job without it are unlikely. Im still looking for work and have been here since June.

3: After you get you personal number apply for your SFI Swedish for immigrants course if you are not already fluent. Its free however you could be waiting 6weeks for a reply. You are better off getting the ball rolling.

4: To set up a bank account you need a Swedish ID you cant get this without your personal number.

5: Housing. I was lucky by boyfriends Swedish so he had points accumulated for an apartment. You have to wait in a queue for accom.

These are all the things I wish I knew before I came. I would say the language is most important when it comes to work. Its a gorgeous country and once set up youll fly it, it just takes time. FYI the off license closes at 3pm on a Sat WTF!!

oh also if you are on he dole at home look into getting it transfered here.
