Is shopping or retail considered important in PNG?

I'm considering moving to PNG this year for work. Based on my research, the capital ranks one of the most worst places to live. Not sure about this but would appreciate more info. I have lived in many places in Asia and Australia. I love the adventure but safety is key.

My goal is to embrace the retail channels in PNG and learn more about its markets. Is shopping or retail considered important in PNG? Cheers

Hi ericsongdelacruz and welcome to Expat.com!

A new thread has been created on Papua New Guinea forum for better interactivity and visibility.;)

Good luck,
Harmonie.

Most locals shop daily in markets. Expats in supermarkets.
Port Moresby is definitely unsafe to live in. Robberies are commonplace, car theft, car jacking.

Unsafe to be out after dark by yourself. I have lived and worked in Moresby where we had a gated, guarded block of units for accommodation. Like living in a prison.

Good morning Eric, if the others can do it, we can do it to, fear will hold you back, many shopping complexes like Vision City, SVS Mart, TST Hypermart, J Mart, Erimart, Boroko Food World, theres a new place in Ela Beach area, like the Water front, they are expanding and same with Vision City Hotel in Waigani.
