Has anyone taken the language test to get a permanent resident permit?

well I see a lot of views but no information. I am US so whatever special rules for EU don't apply, I have been here the basic 5 years in good standing with a job and what to get permanent residence so I an stop the yearly paperwork drill. Unfortunately my job is using English so my Romanian isnt very good, and is mostly used or taxi and shop. Anyone out there managed to get permanent permit? Know anything about it?
